Amrit Kaal Budget shattered dreams of people: Rattan Lal Gupta
Terms Union Budget as ‘anti-poor & pro-corporate’
2/6/2023 10:39:00 PM
Early Times Report

JAMMU, Feb 6: J&K National Conference today dubbed the Union Budget 2023-24 highly disappointing people of the country, besides being an ‘anti-poor, anti-middle class and pro-corporate budget.
In a statement issued here today, Rattan Lal Gupta, Provincial President JK NC Jammu said that the so-called Amrit Kaal Budget has shattered the dreams of the people of the country as it has no provision to address unemployment, farmers’ plight and above all the woes of middle class, which is struggling to sustain the skyrocketing inflation gifted by the BJP Government. “The Budget was “big on announcements and short on delivery” and accused the BJP government of making the common man’s life difficult,” he said, adding that the Budget didn’t have a roadmap to build India’s future.
The senior NC leader said the Budget shows how far the government is removed from the people and their concerns about life, livelihood and the growing inequality between the rich and the poor. He asserted that no tax has been reduced in the Budget except for the small number of people who will opt for the new tax regime.
The senior NC functionary rued that except rhetoric, the Modi Government has done nothing for the common people since the unemployment had broken all the previous records despite PM’s assurance of providing 2 crore jobs annually. He said that the farmers who were quite optimistic this time from the Budget meetings had also returned disenchanted because there was nothing to bring smiles on their faces as even the main issue of the tiller fraternity viz. Minimum Selling Price also went into oblivion with the finance minister promising to fulfill unrealistic targets of a booming economy. Instead of fulfilling the promise made by the PM Modi with the farmers to double their income but unfortunately nothing has been done in this direction, he added.
By making the new tax regime as the default option, Rattan Lal said the government wants to rob the ordinary tax payer of the meagre social security that he may get under the old tax regime. “Basic income tax exemption limit has been increased from Rs 2.5 lakh to Rs 3 lakh only while the same should have been enhanced to Rs 5 lakh as the increase proposed is nominal and it may not give much relief to the middle class”, he said adding that the people falling in this category are disappointed. While the senior citizens have been neglected by the Finance Minister in the new Budget 2023, he added.
Rattan Lal Gupta mentioned that under the new tax regime, several deductions were disallowed such as small saving schemes, expenditure to dependent patients and handicapped allowance as the same were allowed under the old tax regime, terming it as not justified as against the law of natural justice.
The Provincial President JKNC said that the budget is anti-poor because earlier about Rs. 90,000 crore were sanctioned for MGNREGA but now it has been reduced to about Rs 50,000 cr only, making it amply clear that the government is of the rich, for the rich and by the rich.
He also highlighted that in 2014, the GDP was 7.5 and now the GDP is below 6 showing the inflation is up and the country is not progressing rather is snarling as far as the economy is concerned. Besides, there was no roadmap for civic amenities in the Union Budget.
