Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Reasi organizes Awareness Programme on Natural Farming

REASI, Feb 10: Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK), Reasi under the administrative control of Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences and Technologies Jammu (SKUAST-J) organized awareness programme on natural farming under "Up scaling of natural farming through KVKs" project here at KVK, Reasi campus in Reasi distt. of J&K which was enthuastically attended by a number of school children and teachers from Govt. High School Ser Sundwan in Reasi distt. of J&K. The programme was organized under the able guidance of Director Extension, Prof. SK Gupta of SKUAST-J.
The programme was organised to create awareness among the school children and teachers on natural farming. The programme was inaugurated by Sr. Scientist & Head of KVK, Reasi, Dr. Banarsi Lal. During the inaugural session he said that natural farming is the need of the era and informed that it is beneficial for the maintenance soil health and environment.
He further said that Reasi district of J&K has huge potential in natural farming and more entrepreneurial opportunities can be created among the farmers by producing the quality and safe food through natural farming. He stressed on the cluster based approach for the adoption of natural farming.
He narrated that natural farming is agro-ecology based farming which integrates crops, trees, livestock and functional biodiversity. He elaborated the four pillars of natural farming and stressed on the adoption of zero budget natural farming. Earlier Dr.Lalit Upadhyay, Scientist warmly welcomed the participants and briefed the significance of natural farming. He said that for a healthy society, healthy food is required and natural farming can play the significant role for the production of safe food. He also discussed in detail on the soil and environmental health. Dr. Suja Nabi Qureshi guided participants on the commercial organic horticulture practices and said that natural farming is a promising means of reducing the dependence of farmers on external inputs, reducing the cost of cultivation and increasing the income of the farmers.
Dr. Arvinder Kumar discussed on the entrepreneurship development in agriculture and guided participants on scientific cultivation of Rabi and Kharif crops. Dr. Lobzan Stanzen discussed on the importance agrometrology and spoke on the usage of indigenous seed and bioinoculants as the catalyst required for natural farming. Preeti Chaudhary stressed on the balanced nutrition among the children and said that natural farming can play a significant role in maintaining soil and environmental health. KVK Scientists also discussed the preparation of Jeevamrit, Beejamrit, Panchgavya etc. Participants also visited the natural farming model of KVK, Reasi and other demonstrated units such as hydroponics unit, vermicompost unit, polyhouse unit, mushroom unit and showed keen interest in the technologies demonstrated by KVK. Govt. High School Ser Sundwan School teachers Shivangi Gujral, Sunil Kumar and Uttam Singh also present during the programme who appreciated KVK, Reasi for organizing such a useful programme. The programme was assisted by Manohar Lal and concluded by Dr. Suja Nabi Qureshi with the formal vote of thanks.
