2/10/2023 10:57:02 PM
Early Times Report

JAMMU, Feb 10: Jammu Municipal Corporation (JMC) will soon act tough against the unauthorized connections in the city and has set a deadline of 15 days for households to regularize such connections.
Strict instructions were today passed by the Mayor Rajinder Sharma to plug leakages in water supply pipes to avoid water losses and voiced for fining for overflowing of water from water tanks—domestic and commercial.
“Soon disconnection of unauthorized water connections will be done if the same were not regularized and this will be started from the posh Wards 20 and 21 in Gandhi Nagar,” Sharma said. By doing so, Jammu Mayor, Rajinder Sharma has yet come-up again with such revolutionary ideas to ensure proper water supply in the city during upcoming summer season. Chairing a review meeting regarding water supply in the conference hall of Jammu Municipal Corporation (JMC) , the Mayor strictly asked the officers to do all they can to avoid water crisis in summer days. The meeting was attended by Superintendent Engineer, Sanjay Sharma and Executive Engineers including Vijay Gupta, Sunil Gupta, Ravinder Singh and others. The officers in the meeting informed the Mayor that per day Jammu city needs about 125 million gallons of water at present but out of this only 115 million gallons of it is being supplied thereby creating a shortage of 10 million gallons. The Mayor stressed on deep drilling of the 26 new proposed tube wells in Jammu city at an expenditure orf Rs. 139.5 cr project under AMRUT for ensuring proper water supply to the public. He was informed that there are 134 tube wells in the areas under JMC which are now in working condition and there are three intake stations—at Sitli which supplies 16 mgd of water, Dhountly which supplies 1.8 and Boria which also supplies 1.8 mgd of water daily in Jammu. The Mayor said that there should be provision of standby motors at pumping stations of Jal Shakti Department so that public should not suffer in hot summer days when the supplying motor gets burnt.
He also voiced for making more Over Head Tanks (OHTs) to which the water should be filled from the supplying stations at tube wells and it should not be supplied directly to the public but via OHTs as the same will reduce pressure on supplying motors which will increase their lives.
Mayor Sharma also said that work on project to use water of river Chenab will also be worked upon and a lifting will be made at Gurah Pattan and supply will be made from there and funding for this project will be done by Jaika and detail project report for this will be sent to the Civil Secretariat soon.
Sharma also stressed upon up-gradation of places where water intake is done with dedicated power supply to the receiving stations to the supplying stations so that water supply is ensured even during power cuts.
