JAMMU, Feb 12: In a meeting Jammu Mayor, Rajinder Sharma reviewed the works under smart city.
During meeting the Mayor emphasised on displaying cultural aspects of Jammu along with tourist spots at prominent tourist places using laser light shows.
The Mayor asked Director Tourism , Vivekanand Rai that all the works of smart city shall now be continued under the directions of Jammu Municipal Corporation (JMC) to have good results.
Director Tourism was also asked to come-up with a mobile app including all the tourist sites of Jammu so that the visiting tourists may stop here for at least three four days and economy of Jammu may get a boost and the traders of Jammu suffering losses since COVID lockdowns may heave a sigh of relief.
The Mayor asked Rai to divide tourist spots into three categories—adventure tourism, border tourism and religious tourism.
“Include sites like Gharana Wetland, Suchetgarh Border, Bawe Wali Mata shrine, Chichi Mata temple, Purmandal, Uttarbehni, Raghunath Ji Temple, Kol Kandoli temple, Peer Kho, Satwari Peer Baba, Guru Nanak Gurudwara Chand Nagar, Balidan Satambh, Chambliyal shrine, Jhiri, Krimchi temples, Ambaran Buddhist sites, Jambu Zoo etc on the app with historic details of all these places,” Mayor Sharma directed Director Tourism.
When asked why tourism sites of Jammu have not been shown on the website of Tourism Department, the Director made startling disclosure that no access to the site is there for Jammu officers of the Department.
This badly anguished the Mayor who issues strict instructions to correct the disparity else the matter shall be taken to highest authorities.
Rajinder Sharma also stressed on engaging tourist guides for each of these tourist places by giving preference to girls because of their sincerity towards the job.
The Jammu Mayor stressed on making a road map for connectivity between tourist sites and said that another such meeting will be held after 15 days.
Mayor Sharma also expressed concern over slow pace of work at Mubarak Mandi heritage complex.
He stressed on adopting the Mubarak Mandi complex by Union Minister on the pattern of Varanasi which was adopted by PM Modi for development.
The Mayor voiced for shifting Dogra Art Museum to Central Hall in Mubarak Mandi for wide display of things.
He voiced for starting kings ride with elephant for the public and opening of Kiosks for sale of things related to culture and identity of Jammu like handicrafts, eatables like Kalari, Basoli Painting etc at Mubarak Mandi complex to attract tourists.
The Mayor asked JDA to further develop parks at Bagh-e- Bahu and make a place where the public may sit near the Fort Shrine.
Floriculture Department was asked to beautify parks of Jammu especially those at Bahu Fort and Tulip Garden.
All the departments were asked to speed up pace of projects in Jammu under Smart City with Mayor as single controlling authority so that all the works may proceed in one direction of progress.
