2/19/2023 11:05:36 PM

Early Times Report

Jammu, Feb 19: Notwithstanding claims of the incumbent Congress leadership to “politically finishing” the former political stalwart Ghulam Nabi Azad, during a closed-door meeting with party leaders Rahul Gandhi sought feedback about the impact of Azad from local leaders.
After sparing some time from his ongoing personnel visit to the skiing resort Gulmarg, Rahul Gandhi joined by his sister Priyanka Gandhi Vadara conveyed an informal meeting with some selective Kashmir-based party leaders to discuss the prevailing political situation in J&K.
Highly placed sources said that during the meeting Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Vadra discussed all issues including the impact of Ghulam Nabi Azad’s Democratic Azad Party on the prospects of Congress in the assembly elections in the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir.
“Gandhi siblings sought feedback from Kashmir-based party leaders who were specially invited in the meeting at Gulmarg about the damaged done by Ghulam Nabi Azad in J&K”, sources said and added that to keep Gandhis in good humour most of the leaders present in the meeting tried to give an impression that Azad’s party wouldn't have any impact on the prospects of Congress in Union Terrority.
Sources said that a couple of leaders tried to speak the truth but they were snubbed by those who were attending the meeting.
Meanwhile, Rahul Gandhi slammed the ongoing eviction drive in Jammu and Kashmir. He said that the people in the union territory are facing difficulties in absence of an elected government.
Gandhi said this while chairing a meeting of party leaders of Kashmir at Gulmarg. Party leader Priyanka Gandhi Vadra was also present at the meeting.
“Rahul Gandhi expressed serious concern over the difficulties confronting people in absence of the democratic system in J&K,” said an official spokesman.
Rahul Gandhi also slammed the current eviction drive in J&K terming it BJP’s deliberate move to divert the attention of the people from real issues especially rising unemployment, unprecedented price hike, and other developmental issues concerning people, he added.
