Jammu, Mar 2: Even as the high-level team of top officers from the Union Ministry of Home Affairs concluded its 3-day visit of Jammu and Kashmir, the visiting delegation got “shocking inputs about complaints of corruption in babu raaj.”
Sources said the team during its visit to Srinagar and Jammu cities got numerous inputs about “corruption and arrogance” in a section of administration.
Sources said the team was a told that “the blacksheep in administration were grabbing fortunes and that the funds send by the Modi government were being swindled.”
Sources said the team was briefed that New Delhi needs to opt for a crackdown on the corrupt officials or that the prevalent circumstances were leading to “public alienation”.
Sources said the delegation was told that despite no shortage of resources from New Delhi, the public was “not satisfied” with the ruling Bhartiya Janta Party in particular due to “corruption and arrogance of the babu raaj.”
Interestingly anti-corruption protests were staged in Srinagar on March 1 when the MHA team was in the summer capital.
“It’s for the first time that people of Kashmir staged anti-corruption protests in Srinagar on the day when the MHA team was in the town. Certainly it had a message that people want Modi government to act tough against the corrupt blacksheep,” said a senior official on the condition of anonymity.
The sources said that even though the visit of the Home Ministry officials was not to take feedback on corruption “but that the complaints on this front remained shocking.”
It’s pertinent to mention that team headed by Prashant Lokhande, Joint Secretary (Jammu, Kashmir and Ladakh), Union Ministry of Home Affairs and other senior officers reached here Srinagar on February 28.
On the first day the team called on Lieutenant Governor, Manoj Sinha and held a detailed meeting with him over the current security situation in Jammu and Kashmir.
The team also reviewed the progress on the Prime Minister’s Development Package (PMDP) and issues pertaining to Kashmiri Pandit migrants, Pakistan occupied Jammu Kashmir (PoJK), West Pakistani refugees and displaced persons (DPs). The team also took a detailed review of security situation in a meeting with stakeholders including army, police and other paramilitary forces on March 1.
The team subsequently flew to Jammu for more meeting there.
Sources said that Union Home Minister, Amit Shah deputed the officers for assessing the situation, as Union Territory is heading for scheduled local bodies and Panchayat Elections by end of this year.
