Early Times Report

Jammu, Mar 3: Marwah, the remote area of Kishtwar District like many areas of Jammu and Kashmir suffered due to Pakistan sponsored militancy where the women’s were forced to marry at behest of the decision taken by the militant commanders at Public Chopals or gatherings, but with the passage of the time, the militancy in Jammu and Kashmir die down following massive public support to the security forces including to J&K police, the militancy in this remote area is at its last leg with only one local militant active in the area.
Out of Talibani patriarchy mindset, the girls in remote Zaban village of Renie in Marwah are now learning the art of tailoring and stitching so that they could withstand and compete with the girls of the mainland. Once and even today the hot bed of terrorism, in Renie area of Marwah to which Zaban village is also the part, the militant use to conduct Talibani style Jirga in which the girls were forcefully married to terrorists and their supporters. After fighting the Talibani ideology since over two decades, the Indian army (11RR) manage to bring the girls trapped inside their homes due to radicalised mindset to tailoring and stitching center where they are now learning the art of the same.
Early Times talk to the local girl and Tailoring Instructor Shafiqa Banoo— What Shafiqa Banoo says— we transcript the same from Kashmir to English.
Question: You are giving training of tailoring & stitching to the girls of your area- What you have to say on this
Answer: There is no school for the girls in our area- There is nothing for the girls to do- All these were sitting at homes & was doing nothing - It was army who gives us tailoring centre so that the girls of this area moves forward along with girls of other areas- we live in an area where there is no road, no electricity- Infact there is nothing in our area which is the most backward area.
Question: How many girls are being trained at this center & since when?
Answer : 30 girls are being trained at this tailoring center which is functional since June 17, 2022.
Question: What else you want to say about this tailoring center
Answer : I want this centenary to carry on with- there is also need for more sewing machines since the number of the girls is increasing rapidly.
The local said that at first instance the parents were reluctant to send their daughters at the center, but with active involvement of local people & army, the parents agreed to send their daughters at tailoring center established by the army.
The locals said that the communication, road & electricity is the need of the hour beside a school with good infrastructure and staff.
The people said that they do not want to remember those days when militants have an upper hand and dominance in the area.
“We want to forget the past- people want to leave a peaceful & dignified life like people’s of any other part of the country” said a local wishing not to be named.
