Police arrested 5 drug peddlers with contraband substance in Kashmir

Srinagar, Mar 7: Police arrested five drug peddlers and recovered a huge quantity of contraband from their possession on Tuesday.
A police party during a patrolling at Humpora crossing on Baramulla-Handwara highway intercepted a suspicious person who tried to flee from the spot but was apprehended tactfully by the alert police party.
During the search, 102 grams of charas was recovered from his possession. He has been identified as Feroz Ahmad Khan a resident of Panditpora was arrested and shifted to police station where he remains in custody.
In Kulgam, a police party at a checkpoint established at Nippora crossing intercepted a vehicle driven by Lovepreet Singh of Gurdaspur, Punjab. During the search, officers were able to recover 6 kgs of Poppy Straw from the vehicle.
The accused was arrested and the vehicle used in the commission of crime has also been seized.
Meanwhile, acting on specific information regarding drug peddling, a police party established multiple checkpoints at different places and at Batpora crossing a suspicious person identified as Fayaz Ahmad Lone a resident of Melhora, Shopian was apprehended.
During checking, police were able to recover 10grams of heroin from his possession. The accused has been arrested and shifted to a police station where he remains in custody.
Police party of Behibagh at a checkpoint established at Turigam intercepted a suspicious person identified as Afroz Ahmad Bhat a resident of Wanpora, Qaimoh and during search 10grams of heroin and cash amount of Rs 20000 were recovered from his possession. The accused has been arrested
Similarly in Bandipora, police arrested a drug peddler identified as Fayaz Ahmad Beigh resident of Ganasthan Nowgam Sumbal and during his search 3.05kgs of charas powder was recovered from him. The accused was arrested.
Cases under relevant sections of law have been registered in respective police stations and investigations have been initiated, police said.
