GDC organises awareness program on 'Sustainable Practices for use of Natural resources'

UDHAMPUR, Mar 12: Government Degree College Udhampur, organized an awareness programme on “Adoption of Sustainable Practices regarding the use of Natural resources". The programme was conducted under the patronage of Principal Prof. (Dr.) Romesh Kumar Gupta in the college premises as a component of continuum of the series of awareness programs under celebration of India’s Presidency of G20 nations and taking forward the torch of Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav.
Prof Babu Lal Thakur, the senior most faculty member of the college and Dr Sunil Bhat, Convenor of G20 activities graced the event with their presence. Whereas Prof. Romesh Kumar was the Resource Person for the Interactive session during the programme. The Programme was comprising of an interactive lecture and Poster making/ Slogan writing competition was accomplished under the supervision of Asha Sohil, Head of the Department of Environmental Studies and Dr Swarn Singh, Assistant professor, Department of Botany.
In his message the Principal applauded the efforts of the Organisers and stressed for understanding and adopting sustainable goals for the better future of the country. He was of the view that the students shall become the torch bearers for this need of the hour cause to make earth a better and sustainable place to live. At the first place Prof. Romesh Kr. Atri, Head department of Botany, the main resource person interacted with the students and shared his knowledge regarding the significance of natural resources, their conservation, their sustainable utilization and also encouraged the students to act as ambassadors for adopting SDGs and spread awareness among the local communities and masses. In the second part of the programme the Students from different streams of the college actively participated with great interest and enthusiasm in the slogan writing and the poster making competitions. In the events the students showcased their ideas and views regarding conservation of natural resources and their sustainable utilization. The competition was adjudicated by Prof. Jawaid Sarver department of Botany and Dr Anita Sharma from the Department of Zoology. Prof Babu Lal Thakur in his presidential remarks briefed the students about the G-20 activities and the role of the colleges and students thereof. He also highlighted the significance of natural resources and their sustainable use and conservation for future generation.
