KVK organizes training programme on "Promotion of Millets & Farm Mechanization"

SAMBA, Mar 13: Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Samba of She-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences & Technology of Jammu organized training programme on "Promotion of Millets & Nutri-Cereals" & "Farm Mechanization and Automation" under UT-level training on holistic agriculture development programme.
Dr. Sanjay Khajuria, Chief Scientist & Head, KVK Samba in his welcome address briefed about both projects under UT-level training on holistic agriculture development programme in detail. He further told that the main purpose of the programme is to prepare for the successful implementation of above said projects under Holistic development of agriculture sector. He highlighted the importance of millets, Nutri cereals and farm mechanization. He also briefed that traditional millets diet is beneficial in diabetes, obesity and host of other disorders. Millets are rich in essential vitamins, minerals, protein and fiber, and the lesser known fact is that all the dishes made from rice and wheat can also be made from millets. He asked the officers of allied departments to work in coordination so that the desired results under different projects could be achieved.
During the Programme, a presentation was given by the Resource Person, Prof. Parmindra singh. He briefed all the participants in detail about the Importance of millets, nutritional health security and various products. He informed that Millets are drought-resistant, with lower water requirements, and can be cultivated on poor soils and in hilly terrain and therefore could be produced and promoted in almost all Geographical Terrains & Regions of the district Samba. They are also rich in carbohydrates, protein and minerals like calcium, potassium, magnesium, iron, manganese, and zinc, he added. He further told the participant there should be no impact of climate change on millets as compared to other crops. The trainings were given to the officers of Agriculture.
While addressing the session of the event, Sh. Sanjay Verma, Chief Agriculture Officer said the crux of projects was presented before the stakeholders during the event so that they could understand the interventions that have been taken under these projects for the holistic development of agriculture and allied sectors. He asked the participants to go through the details of both projects and contribute to their successful implementation. Jatinder Kumar, District Agriculture Extension Officer, Samba also briefed abouth the importance of millets in detail, types of different millets, targets of the project. He also gave a brief presentation about the project Farm mechanization and automation. He also urged the participants to work hard for the upliftment of the farmers of district Samba through these projects.
The proceedings of the programme was carried out by Dr. Saurav Gupta Scientist Entomology. The programme was also attended by Bharat Bhushan and Tejinder Singh.
