Convocation of IGNOU held across country

JAMMU, Apr 3: Indira Gandhi National Open University organized its 36th Convocation today. The Convocation ceremony was organised at 33 Regional Centres across the Country concurrently including the Regional Centre Jammu. As many as two lakh seventy nine thousand nine hundred and seventeen (2,79,917) students were declared qualified to be presented with the degree/diploma/certificate in the convocation functions at IGNOU Headquarters and 33 Regional Centres across the country. This included 108 doctorate Degrees as well. All those students who had successfully completed their respective programmes of study in the Term-End Examinations held in December 2021 and June 2022 were eligible to receive their Degree/Diploma certificates in the 36th Convocation ceremony.
Droupadi Murmu, President of India, was the chief guest on the occasion and delivered the convocation address at the New Delhi Headquarters of IGNOU. Dharmendra Pradhan, Minister of Education, Skill Development and Entrepreneurship, Govt. of India was the Guest of Honour.
The Convocation function of Jammu Regional Centre was held in the Convention Centre, Near Circuit House, Jammu. Padmashree Dr. Ravindra Kumar Sinha, Vice Chancellor, Shri Mata Vaishno Devi University, Katra was the chief guest for the Convocation ceremony at Jammu. A number of dignitaries and invitees were present on the occasion along with the students of the Regional Centre Jammu who had successfully completed their Degrees/Diplomas.
The Convocation ceremony started with the lighting of traditional lamp by the dignitaries and Saraswati Vandana. The students of Govt. College for Women, Parade Jammu performed the saraswati vandana. Dr. Vikram Singh, Assistant Regional Director, presented a bouquet to the chief guest. S. Tejinder Pal Singh presented a traditional shawl and Dr. Sandeep Gupta, Regional Director, presented the memento to the Chief Guest. Alka Sharma hosted the show.
The University had earlier created an online portal for the eligible students to register for the Convocation. The students who registered and submitted their consent to receive the degree in person were invited as per IGNOU guidelines to confer upon the Degree in the Convocation ceremony. Those who had registered and given their consent to receive Diploma/Degree through post would be sent their respective Degree/Diploma/Certificate through Speed Post after the Convocation ceremony.
A total of ten thousand five hundred and six (10506) students from Regional Centre Jammu have been declared successful and eligible to receive Diplomas and Degree Certificates in the 36th Convocation function at Jammu which includes 4536 students of Master Degree programmes, 5230 students of Bachelor Degree programmes, 469 students of Diploma/Post Graduate Diploma programmes and 271 students of Certificate/Post Graduate Certificate programmes. However, around 115 students who had given their consent to attend the Convocation received their Degree/Diploma certificates in person during the convocation function here at Jammu.
Prof. R.K. Sinha, chief guest on the occasion at Jammu, termed the 36th Convocation of IGNOU as an occasion of Celebration of IGNOU's achievements which is referred to as the People's University accessible to all those far and wide who otherwise would have lost the opportunity to gain access to higher education, improve upon their qualification and increase the chances of employment.
