| Widespread light rain likely to occur in Kashmir: MeT | | | Early Times Report
SRINAGAR, Apr 5: Meteorological department predicts a fairly widespread light rain thunderstorm over Kashmir valley while isolated very light rains are likely to occur over Jammu division during the next 24 hours.
Light rain coupled with thunderstorm is likely to occur at fairly widespread places of Kashmir and at isolated places of Jammu Division towards late afternoon and evening of Wednesday. The thunderstorm is likely accompanied by gusty winds at a few places, the MeT office said and added the weather is likely to remain dry from April 7 to April 10.
The minimum temperature dipped to below normal all across the Kashmir valley with Gulmarg recording lowest temprature at minus 3.5 degree Celsius and tourist hot spot of Pahalgam in south Kashmir had a low of minus 1.8 degree Celsius on Wednesday, the MeT office said.
Srinagar received 2.9mm of rainfall during the past 24 hours till 0830hours today while, Qazigund 8.8mm, Pahalgam 10.8mm, Kupwara 2.8mm, Kokernag 4.2mm, Gulmarg 7.8mm, Jammu 0.0mm, Baniha 5.4mm and Batote 0.6mm.
Sun appeared to be playing hide and seek as mostly overcast sky prevailed in Srinagar and its adjoining areas after days of intermittent rainfall that triggered wintry conditions all across the Kashmir valley.
Srinagar, the summer capital of Jammu and Kashmir, recorded a low of 2.7 degree Celsius against 6.9 degree Celsius on the previous night. It was 3.7 degree Celsius below normal during this period of the season. The maximum temperature was also 2.1 degree Celsius below normal against 17.7 degree Celsius.
Qazigund on Srinagar-Jammu national highway had a low of 3.6 degree Celsius on Wednesday against 6.4 degree Celsius and it was 1.5 degree Celsius below normal for the gateway of Kashmir.
Pahalgam in south Kashmir recorded a low of minus 1.8 degree Celsius against 3.2 degree Celsius the previous night. It was 3.5 degree Celsius below normal for the tourist hot spot.
Kokernag experienced a low of 3.2 degree Celsius against 5.4 degree Celsius and it was 1.9 degree Celsius below normal for the picnic spot of south Kashmir.
Gulmarg in north Kashmir settled at minus 3.5 degree Celsius against minus 0.5 degree Celsius recorded on Tuesday. It was 2.7 degree Celsius below normal for the famous ski resort.
Kupwara had a low of 1.2 degree Celsius against 4.4 degree Celsius the previous night and it was 2.7 degree Celsius below normal for the frontier Kashmir district, the MeT office said. |
