J&K likely to witness wet weather from Sunday

SRINAGAR, Apr 14: A western disturbance is likely to hit Jammu and Kashmir on Sunday that can bring rains with moderate intensity coupled with thunderstorm and lightning, officials said.
Meteorological department forecast of mainly Dry weather today and tomorrow with generally cloudy with intermittent Light rain, thunderstorm coupled with lightning with occasionally moderate intensity rains on April 16-17 for a short period at scattered to fairly widespread places of Kashmir Division and few places of Jammu Division .
It said the weather will remain generally cloudy with intermittent Light to moderate rain with light snow over higher reaches and thunderstorm, lightning at widespread places of Kashmir Division and many places of Jammu Division on April 18-19.
On April 20 and 21 the weather will remain generally cloudy with intermittent Light rain, thunderstorm and Lightning at few places there after the weather is likely to remain partly cloudy but dry from April 22 to April 27.
An independent weather observer Faizan Arif told UNI that Jammu and Kashmir is likely to experience the impact of two consecutive Western Disturbances in the upcoming week. He said the first WD is expected to arrive on April 16 and will be followed by another WD around April 18.
He said the second WD can decrease the day temperature over 10 degrees Celsius from the normal.
Srinagar, the summer capital of Jammu and Kashmir, recorded a low of 9.0 degree Celsius against 7.2 degree Celsius on the previous night and it was 1.4 above normal during this period of the season.
The maximum temperature was 7.1 degree Celsius above normal of 20.1 degree Celsius in Srinagar on Friday.
Qazigund, on Srinagar-Jammu national highway settled on 6.0 degree Celsius for the second consecutive day and it was 0.5 degree Celsius below normal for the gateway town of Kashmir.
Pahalgam, recorded a low of 3.6 degree Celsius against 3.2 degree Celsius on the previous night and it was 0.8 degree Celsius above normal for the famous tourist resort in south Kashmir district of Anantnag.
Kokernag recorded a low of 9.4 degree Celsius against 9.1 degree Celsius on the previous night and it was 3.3 degree Celsius above normal for the picnic spot.
Gulmarg recorded a low of 5.4 degree Celsius against 4.4 degree Celsius on the previous night. However, it was 3.9 degree Celsius above normal for the world famous ski resort in north Kashmir.
