Fraudsters on prowl
4/17/2023 11:06:46 PM

Fraudsters selling fake Gulmarg Gondola tickets to tourists opened a Pandora’s Box and brought to fore how a few elements are cheating the tourists.
Although the gang involved in selling fake tickets to the tourists was busted by the police, some fraudsters are still continuing to befool the tourists planning to visit Jammu and Kashmir.
According to media reports social media is flooded with fake posts on behalf of the J&K Cable Car Corporation regarding the suspension of the booking of the cable car in the picturesque ski resort of Gulmarg.
The fake posts claim that the booking for Gulmarg Gondola has been suspended till July 5, 2023. The Jammu and Kashmir Tourism Department has made it clear that the post regarding the suspension of cable car booking was fake and misleading.
Authorities have taken a serious note about fraudsters being on prowl and steps are being taken to check them. There have been some instances in the recent past about these fraudsters selling holiday packages to the tourists and disappearing after taking the advance payments for the bookings.
Like the last two years, this year also the government is expecting a huge inflow of tourists to J&K. Officials have already issued an advisory that the tourists planning to visit the Union Territory should deal only with the registered tour operators and travel agents so that they are not hoodwinked by the fake agents.
Tourists have been advised to cross check the tickets and other documents that are handed over to them by their booking agents.
Travel agents, who are resorting to such tactics need to bear in mind that by cheating their clients they are ruining their reputations and are harming business interest.
Last week 28 tourists from Mumbai were caught with fake Gondola tickets at Gulmarg. The tourists were given these fake tickets by their tour operator in Mumbai. Their tour manager admitted that the tickets were forged by their company and their clients were unaware about it. He was handed over to Police after the fraud was detected.
The authorities need to put in place a fool proof mechanism so that such incidents are avoided and tourists don’t face any problems during their trips to J&K. Checks and balances need to become operational to save the tourists from online fraudsters and fake tour operators.
