Early Times Report

Jammu, Apr 22: Amid uncertainty over the timing of the first assembly elections in the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir, a survey is being conducted by an unknown agency through telephone over the future of the BJP.
The agency through the telephone is conducting a survey of the performance of ex-legislators of BJP some of them had served as ministers in the previous PDP-BJP coalition regime in the erstwhile state of Jammu and Kashmir.
The computerized survey is being conducted to rate the outcome of the steps taken by BJP led NDA government at the Centre especially after the abrogation of Article 370 in Jammu and Kashmir.
Highly placed sources said that BJP has hired some private agencies to conduct an internal survey to get feedback about potential candidates of the party.
Reports said that the party is getting the report card of its former MLA and MLCs prior to the polls. It is said that the tickets would be allotted or avoided to the ex-legislators based on their assessment reports.
The assessment of the ex-legislators, which is being done with utmost secrecy, will also consider their conduct in public, apart from their own constituency.
BJP internal sources told said the report would be conveyed to the top leadership based on the feedback and internal survey.
The BJP has already experimented with its assessment formula in the state Assembly polls and Lok Sabha elections, which benefitted it most of the time.
As reported earlier, BJP has started an exercise to prepare panels of potential candidates.
Highly placed sources said that the BJP high command has asked state unit to prepare panels of three potential candidates for each of the assembly seats of J&K.
“It has been clearly directed to the state unit that panels should not be comprised of less than three candidates for each Parliamentary seat”, the BJP leader said, adding, “party will field candidates on all 90 assembly seats of the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir”.
“Decision to repeat or replace the MLAs who won 2014 assembly elections of the erstwhile state of Jammu and Kashmir will be taken by the high command”, sources said and added that the only task assigned to the state unit is to prepare panels of potential candidates for all.
