Training programme on entrepreneurship development through mushroom cultivation held at SKUAST

JAMMU, Apr 28: A training programme on Scope of Mushrooms for Entrepreneurship Development was held at Mushroom Unit, SKUAST-J under the aegis of Directorate of Research, SKUAST-J under AICRP on Mushrooms in collaboration with Division of Plant Pathology. The training programme was held for the unemployed youth and farmers from SC community of the border villages of R.S. Pura.
The trainees were briefed about the various mushrooms that can be grown under Jammu conditions and were also given hands on training on cultivation of oyster mushroom.
During the training programme lectures and practical sessions were held on substrate preparation and inoculation techniques for cultivation of oyster mushroom.
The participants were exposed to the technical problems that one is likely to face while cultivating mushrooms. Various inputs like spray pumps, spawn, polybags etc. were distributed among the trainees to encourage them for adopting mushroom cultivation. The training programme was coordinated by Dr. Sachin Gupta, Professor and Incharge AICRP on Mushrooms under the guidance and convenorship of Prof. Amrish Vaid, Head, Division of Plant Pathology. The participants of the training programme expressed great satisfaction and hoped for taking up mushroom cultivation as an enterprise for their socio-economic upliftment.
