KVK, promotes egg laying poultry breeds for enhanced productivity

REASI, May 16: Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK), under the aegis of Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences and Technology of Jammu (SKUAST-J) is promoting and educating the rural youths on egg laying poultry breeds in Reasi district of J&K so as to enhance their farm income and employment. According to Sr. Scientist & Head of Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK), Reasi, Dr. Banarsi Lal, there is an immense scope of poultry farming in hilly areas and egg laying poultry breeds can play the significant role in generating the additional farm income and employment among the rural youths of the district. He said that KVK, Reasi is implementing the ARYA (Attracting and Retaining Youths in Agriculture) project in the district through which the KVK is promoting and educating the rural youths on egg laying poultry breeds so that they can be made self-sustainable. He added that objective of ARYA project is to develop agri-entrepreneurship among the rural youths and scientific poultry farming can be adopted as an enterprise by the rural areas. He expressed that KVK has laid Front Line Demonstrations (FLDs) on meat and egg laying breeds of poultry in the district to showcase the technologies to the rural youths under ARYA project. He said that poultry eggs and meat are having great demand in the market and rural youths can fetch more prices by selling them. He informed that improved varieties of poultry can lay about 160-200 eggs per year and also can produce more meat. Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK), Reasi is motivating the rural youths of Reasi distt. for rearing of meat and egg laying breeds of poultry as it can open some new employment opportunities among the rural youths and can also help to prevent the rural migration. By observing the successful results of meat and egg laying breeds of poultry, many rural youths are showing keen interest towards their farming.
