Early Times Report
JAMMU, May 16: Rattan Lal Gupta, the Provincial President of Jammu and Kashmir National Conference (JKNC) Jammu, has instructed all District and Block presidents of the party in Jammu province to mobilize the grassroots-level cadre in preparation for the upcoming Panchayat and Urban Local Bodies elections. He made this announcement while addressing functionaries of the Jammu West constituency at Sher-e-Kashmir Bhawan today. The meeting, presided over by Chander Mohan Sharma, District President Jammu Urban, focused on galvanizing the party's efforts.
Gupta, a senior leader of the National Conference, criticized the Union Territory Administration for its failure on various fronts, leaving the people of the region to fend for themselves. He emphasized that only the National Conference can fulfill the aspirations of the people of J&K and the party has a responsibility to deliver exceptional performance in the upcoming Panchayat, ULB, and Assembly elections, thereby putting an end to the miseries inflicted upon the people by the LG's bureaucratic autocracy in the absence of a representative government.
During the brainstorming session with party leaders, there were detailed discussions on the forthcoming Jammu Municipal Corporation polls, which are crucial for both the party and the welfare of the people. Gupta urged the District and Block presidents to prioritize reaching out to the people at their doorsteps and resolving their issues. He encouraged the party cadre to strengthen the grassroots base by creating awareness about the key achievements during the National Conference's previous regime.
Gupta accused the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and its leaders of attempting to divert attention from their own failures by blaming successive governments in J&K for not doing enough. He argued that the BJP has failed to deliver for the people and has created chaos in J&K, with multiple scams tarnishing its image. He challenged the present J&K administration, which acted as the BJP's proxy government for nine years, to show its accomplishments in terms of development.
The senior NC leader highlighted the deplorable state of the almost defunct Jammu Municipal Corporation, which has become a hotbed of corruption and fails to address the real issues faced by the public. He expressed concern over the worsening situation across sectors, stating that people's sufferings seem to have no end.
Gupta assured that once the party emerges victorious in the upcoming Panchayat and ULB polls, they will prioritize development works according to the aspirations of the people in the Jammu region. He also pledged to roll back property tax. He cited the recent Karnataka election results as evidence that people have rejected the BJP's divisive politics, and predicted that the BJP will face defeat at both the national and regional levels, including in J&K.
The meeting was attended by several prominent figures, including Sheikh Bashir Ahmed, Provincial Secretary Jammu; Bushan Lal Bhat, Ex-MLC; Vijay Lochan P.P SC Cell; Pardeep Bali, Provincial Secretary; Vijay Lakhshmi Datta; S. Gurnam Singh, Block President Jammu West; Shabir Ahmed; S. Tejinder Singh; Nitish Gowsami; Seema Kumari; M.L Sabarwal; Ramesh Abrol; Sahil Kerni; Amritpal Singh; Master Bal Dev Raj; and others.
