Early Times Report
RAMBAN, May 17: District Magistrate, Mussarat Islam, presided over a meeting of the District Road Safety Committee (DRSC) to discuss road safety measures and improve road conditions in the district. The meeting aimed to minimize road accidents and raise awareness about road safety.
Key attendees included Additional SP Gourav Mahajan, CPO Dr. Kasturi Lal, ARTO Samrinder Singh, Chief Education Officer Devanand, Executive Engineers from PWD and PMGSY, and representatives from the National Highway Authority of India (NHAI).
During the meeting, the DM instructed the Traffic Police and NHAI to conduct regular checks to deter speeding and traffic rule violations. Strict actions were advised against offenders in coordination with the Motor Vehicle Department. The installation of CCTV cameras at vulnerable locations and the provision of emergency lights were emphasized.
The PWD and PMGSY departments were tasked with conducting annual road audits and submitting reports, while the ARTO was directed to carry out checking drives on the National Highway and link roads, particularly to address the issue of oversized vehicles. Regular reporting of road accident data was also mandated.
Highlighting the importance of road safety awareness camps organized by the health and education departments, the DM urged stakeholders to promptly upload data on the IRAD portal after any road accident, emphasizing the portal's utility and relevance.
The NHAI was instructed to address potholes on the existing National Highway and install signage to keep commuters informed about the latest highway conditions. Furthermore, the promotion of e-Rickshaws on suitable link roads for public convenience was suggested.
The DM also called upon the municipal authorities to take strict action against improper parking and unauthorized hoardings to alleviate road congestion in towns. Earlier, the ARTO Ramban provided updates on the initiatives undertaken to tackle issues such as overspeeding, overcharging, wrong parking, drunken driving, and underage driving on the National Highway and other link roads in the district.
