GZSM Degree College organises blood donation camp

REASI, May 17: Celebrating India's G20 Presidency in 2023, a blood donation camp was organized at Govt. General Zorawar Singh Memorial Degree College Reasi on May 16, 2023. The event was coordinated by the College NCORD Committee, Sports Committee, NCC Unit, Health & Red Cross Club in collaboration with the J&K Thalassemia Welfare Society, with the guidance of Dr. Kulvinder Kour, the esteemed Principal of the College.
Shashi Sharma, Director of Sports and Convener of the Health Club at GDC Reasi, welcomed the team of doctors and health professionals from Jammu, volunteers from the J&K Thalassemia Welfare Society, Red Cross Society Reasi, NCC Cadets, and other student volunteers for their invaluable support in organizing this noble event. Prof. Gourav Gupta, Assistant Professor of Biotechnology and Nodal Officer of the College NCORD Committee, raised awareness about thalassaemia among the students, encouraging their active participation and emphasizing the importance of staying away from drugs and becoming assets to society.
Leading by example, Lt. Prof. Sunil Mangotra, NCC officer and Convener of the Red Cross Club, was the first person among the blood donors. Prof. Mukesh Kumar and Prof. Rajinder Kumar also donated blood, inspiring the students to come forward and contribute. Around 75 students and teachers registered as voluntary donors, out of which approximately 40 were found eligible to donate blood.
The event received support and assistance from the J&K Thalassemia Welfare Society, Red Cross Society Reasi, Canara Bank Reasi, and District Hospital Reasi. Refreshments were provided to all donors, participants, and organizers.
Prof. Anchal Raj, Associate Professor at GDC Reasi, was also present at the event. The team of health professionals from GMC Jammu was led by Dr. Mohsin Farooque. Kuldeep Khajuria, District Executive Secretary of the District Red Cross Society, provided necessary assistance throughout the camp. Representatives from Canara Bank Reasi, Nishant Gupta (Manager) and Anubhav Sharma (Assistant Manager), were also present.
Prof. Sunil Mangotra delivered the formal vote of thanks, expressing appreciation for the efforts of the J&K Thalassemia Welfare Society, doctors, health professionals, Red Cross Society Reasi, CMO Reasi, Canara Bank, and media persons in making the event a resounding success.
