Farmers biggest strength of J&K
5/17/2023 11:12:29 PM

The intervention of technology in the farming sector has made farming simple, easy and productive.
Nearly 70% of J&K’s population is dependent on the farming and agriculture sector.
As many as 29 projects of Holistic Agriculture Development Program (HADP) have been implemented in J&K with an aim to strengthen agriculture & allied sectors to achieve the goal of inclusive growth.
The higher priority has been accorded to the sustainability of farm livelihoods. The objective of the HADP projects is to ensure that villages in J&K become a centre of rural prosperity.
During the past few years the government has recognized and honored the contribution of farmers in the progress of Jammu Kashmir. Farmers are the biggest strength of J&K and despite numerous challenges they are working hard to feed the people.
The technology interventions introduced by the present regime are helping in increasing the crop yield and are bringing stability in production. These have made crops resistant to pests and ecological changes. Improvement in the post-harvesting shelf life has also increased to a large extent.
The innovations like using artificial intelligence and other practices have increased the income of farmers manifold. The ongoing Kisan Sampark Abhiyan in J&K is aimed at empowering the farmers and making them aware about the schemes and the new innovations that can help them improve their techniques and achieve better results.
A strong ecosystem is being built for the growth of the agriculture sector in J&K. The fast pace of progress in reviving agriculture & allied sector has provided an opportunity to the youth to take up farming as their profession and eke out decent living. The government has been putting in relentless efforts to facilitate the youngsters so that their sources of income become concrete.
The HADP projects are aimed at enhancing the capacity of small & marginal farmers, improve their access to technology, institutional credit, domestic & international market and develop critical infrastructure such as post-harvest processing facilities. Several new initiatives such as Rural Business and Service Hubs to provide critical inputs, market intervention in favour of farmers are ensuring that the benefits of the crops reach directly to the farming community.
Different interventions like digitization of land records, availability of expert opinions, farm practices guided by modern technology and techniques besides use of high yielding varieties of agricultural inputs have helped the farmers to double their incomes and they have become important stakeholders in driving J&K’s economy.
