ADGP congratulates JKP Basketball team for remarkable victory

SRINAGAR, May 23: S. J. M. Gillani-IPS, Additional Director General of Police, Armed, J&K, extended his heartfelt congratulations to the Central Basketball Team of J&K Police for their outstanding achievement as the overall champions and securing the Gold Medal in the Invitational Basketball Tournament-2023, organized by the Basketball Association of Himachal Pradesh.
In a special felicitation ceremony, the ADGP Armed commended the dedicated efforts of the coaches and the team captain in nurturing and guiding the players to achieve this remarkable feat.
The Invitational Tournament took place in Sanghol, District Kangra (Himachal Pradesh) from May 13 to May 16, 2023. A total of 21 teams from various states and Union Territories of North India, including professional clubs from across the country, participated in the tournament. The J&K Police Basketball team, representing J&K Police, showcased exceptional skills and determination by winning all three initial matches and advancing to the pool play.
In the quarterfinals, the JKP team competed against the 8 Dogra team and emerged victorious with a score of 80-53. They continued their winning streak in the semi-final, defeating 21 Punjab with an impressive score of 102-79, thus securing their spot in the final match. The intense final clash between the JKP Team and Punjab Sixers concluded with a thrilling score of 81-79 in favor of the J&K Police team. With this remarkable victory, the J&K Police team claimed the title of overall champions and were awarded the prestigious Gold Medal.
The J&K Police Basketball team, under the leadership of Captain Sumit Kumar, consisted of 10 talented players including Sunit Kumar, Vishal Sharma, Vishal Choudhary, Rajat Singh, Avinash Dingra, Sachin Dogra, Rishab Singh, Rahul Manhas, and Shubam Bhardwaj. The team was coached by Senior Coach Amit Bharti and Assistant Coach Iqbal Singh. Shubam Sharma and Sumit Kumar were recognized as the best scorers of the tournament, while Iqbal Singh was honored as the player of the tournament.
The felicitation ceremony, held at the Armed Police Headquarters J&K Srinagar, was attended by Mahmood Ahmed SSP, Staff Officer to ADGP Armed J&K, Syed Sajad Hussain, Private Secretary to ADGP Armed J&K,. Kuldeep Handoo, Dy.SP (Sports) APHQ, Abdul Rashid-SI(S), PA to ADGP Armed, and Mushtaq Ahmad-SI, I/C Sports Branch APHQ, along with the coaches and members of the J&K Police Basketball team.
