NEW DELHI, May 24: Indian spiritual master, Gurudev Sri Sri Ravi Shankar, delivered a keynote address at the European Parliament in Brussels, focusing on the pressing issue of mental health. The event, organized by the World Forum for Ethics in Business, aimed to find practical solutions and engage in discussions regarding the global impact of mental health challenges.
Gurudev emphasized the importance of integrating Ayurveda, meditation, and breathing techniques into conventional methods of addressing mental health issues. He highlighted the benefits of powerful breathing techniques in managing mental health disorders, promoting clarity of mind, and reducing stress and anxiety.
The event saw the participation of over 200 attendees, including mental health experts, policymakers, and members of the European Parliament. H.E. Mr. Santosh Jha, Ambassador of India to Belgium, the EU, and Luxembourg, expressed India's commitment to addressing mental health issues globally and highlighted the country's ancient wisdom in this field.
Gurudev called for destigmatizing mental health illnesses and emphasized the need for building social connections to support individuals struggling with mental health issues. He shared his insights and experiences in promoting emotional and mental resilience on a global scale.
The session took place against the backdrop of the rising prevalence of depression, anxiety, and mental health challenges worldwide, particularly in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic. Global spending on mental health has been inadequate, with governments allocating minimal budgets to tackle the crisis. The economic and social costs of poor mental health are significant, underscoring the urgency to prioritize mental well-being on a global scale.
Gurudev's address resonated with the audience, emphasizing the link between mental health and peace-building. He stressed that inner peace and individual well-being are fundamental to fostering outer peace and societal prosperity.
As a renowned advocate for mental health, Gurudev Sri Sri Ravi Shankar has dedicated over four decades to spreading awareness and providing practical techniques for stress relief. His work has impacted millions of people worldwide, promoting emotional and mental resilience as the foundation for a harmonious society.
