7 dead, 3 injured in accident near Dangduroo, Dam site

Kishtwar, May 24: In a tragic accident that occurred Wednesday morning near the Dangduroo, Dam site of the 1000 MW Pakal Dul Hydroelectric Power Projects, Dachhan of District Kishtwar, resulting in the loss of 7 precious lives of the labourers working with Jai Prakash company and injuries to 3 workers, including two critically who was later shifted to Government Medical College Hospital Jammu for advance treatment.
The injured persons who were shifted to GMC Jammu were identified as Ravi Kumar S/o Raj Narayan Giri R/o Reakundinoir Sewan Bihar, Mohammad Fareed S/o Gulab Din R/o Jatt Gali Ramban while the injured under treatment at District Hospital Kishtwar has been identified as Varun Kumar S/o Prithvi Raj R/o Kuleed Kishtwar.
As per the details available with Early Times, upon receiving information about the accident, the locals along with the labourers immediately rush to the spot and started rescue operation along with the police.
The locals told the Early Times that after project management fail to provide ambulances for shifting the dead and injured, the locals shifted them towards hospital only after the ambulances from District Hospital Kishtwar arrived and injured were shifted to the hospital.
The locals blame project management negligence for today’s accident and called for stern action against those involved in safeguarding the lives of the poor labourers added that had the signal men were at place, the accident could have been avoided.
The locals said that majority of the workers are working without safety equipment and called for magisterial inquiry into the circumstances that led to this tragic accident.
Deputy Commissioner (DC) Kishtwar Dr. Devansh Yadav and Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Kishtwar Khalil Ahmed Poswal also promptly rushed to the district hospital to assess the situation and provide necessary support.
They expressed their profound grief and heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families who have lost their loved ones in this unfortunate incident.
In a gesture of support and sympathy, the DC Kishtwar has announced Workman compensation upto Rs 20 lakhs, besides Rs 2.5 lakhs by CVPP, Rs 1 lakh from Road Safety Fund and Job to family member each to the Next of Kin of the deceased workers.
Additionally, a sum of Rs 25,000 each has been allocated as immediate relief for the families of deceased and injuried under the Red Cross and Rs. 75,000 by JP Company for last rites of deceased.
Two injured workers have been shifted to GMC Jammu and one is at DH Kishtwar for medical treatment, ensuring they receive the best possible care.
During their visit to Accident site, the DC and SSP Kishtwar closely monitored the administration's efforts to provide comprehensive assistance and medical treatment to the injured workers.
They assure the bereaved families that all possible support will be extended to them during this difficult time and announced that treatment expenditure of injured will be born by JP Company.
They extend their deepest sympathies to the families who have lost their loved ones and pray for the speedy recovery of the injured workers.
Later, DC & SSP Kishtwar also held a meeting with the project authorities and directed them to ensure that the victims are extended with all immediate help.
Police assured the locals for investigating the reason for accident and follow up necessary action as per Motor Vehicle Act.
The dead bodies of all the deceased persons were handed over to the family members after completion of all the legal formalities.
