GDC Samba organizes powerlifting championship

SAMBA, May 24: The Pt Prem Nath Dogra Govt. Degree College in Samba organized the Intra-District Inter-Collegiate Powerlifting Championship (Men-Women categories) as part of the Y20 series of events under the G20 One Earth, One Family, One Future initiative. The competition took place on May 24, with Rakesh Dubey, Additional Deputy Commissioner of Samba, as the Guest of Honour and Dr. Twinkle Suri, Principal of GDC Samba, as the Chief Guest.
Participants from five Government Degree Colleges in the district, including Vijaypur, Ramgarh, Ghagwal, Purmandal, Samba, and Bhargava Degree College, enthusiastically took part in the event. The championship featured five different weight categories for both men and women, with Sahil Slathia and Vivek Slathia from the Department of Youth Service and Sports, Samba, serving as judges.
The audience witnessed thrilling moments as participants showcased their incredible physical strength and technical acumen in powerlifting. Rakesh Dubey emphasized the crucial role of sports in shaping the character of students and shared his own experiences of representing his college in inter-college competitions as the captain of the football team. Dr. Twinkle Suri praised the efforts of the G-20 and Sports Committee and congratulated the winners for their outstanding performances.
In various weight categories for men, Bhavan Singh secured first place in the under 59kg category, followed by Dhanjeevgir and Muneesh Kumar. In the under 66kg category, Dushyant, Rakesh, and Manik received prizes, while Vinay, Ashish, and Anurag claimed the top three positions in the under 74kg category. Himanshu and Sparsh stood first and second in the under 83kg category, and Jatin and Sahil achieved the same in the under 93kg category. Vishal and Aditya emerged as the winners in the under 105kg category.
The female participants also showcased their skills and secured top positions in their respective categories. Sunali Sharma claimed first place in the under 47kg category, while Gagandeep took the top spot in the under 52kg category. Glory and Mansi achieved first and second place, respectively, in the under 57kg category. Priyanka Choudhary, Sneha, and Priyanka were declared winners in the under 63kg, 76kg, and 84kg categories, respectively.
