AHMEDABAD, June 2: Kavinder Gupta, senior Bharatiya Janata Party leader and former Deputy Chief Minister, met Union Minister of Panchayati Raj, Giriraj Singh, in Ahmedabad to discuss strategies for doubling farmers' income. The focus of the meeting was on the potential benefits of cow farming for farmers in India, with a particular emphasis on Jammu and Kashmir. During the discussion, the Union Minister highlighted the significant advantages of cow farming, while Kavinder Gupta assured him of launching a robust awareness campaign across the J&K Union Territory to motivate farmers in this sensitive region.
Giriraj Singh emphasized the cultural significance of cows in India, highlighting their revered status in the oldest living civilization. He stressed that cow farming can play a pivotal role in doubling farmers' income, primarily through the production and sale of milk, cow dung, and cow urine, which are in high demand nationwide.
The Union Minister urged farmers to embrace cow farming as a crucial factor in doubling their income through dairy farming. He outlined numerous benefits, including the production of dairy by-products and the use of cow dung as organic manure for cultivating crops.
Giriraj Singh cited examples of farmers who have already witnessed a significant increase in their income by adopting cow farming and dairy farming practices. He underscored the potential for developing a strong "cow-based economy" that can provide sustainable livelihoods for farmers.
The Union Minister also highlighted the use of cow dung as a renewable energy source, which can be utilized to generate income by selling energy to local communities. This offers a sustainable solution to meet energy needs and has positive implications for rural areas, contributing to job creation and improved livelihoods.
During the meeting, Giriraj Singh mentioned the various subsidy schemes launched by the Modi government specifically for the welfare of farmers. He assured Kavinder Gupta that the government would extend support and assistance to farmers opting for cow farming and sustainable agricultural practices, enabling them to enhance their livelihoods and income.
In response to the Union Minister's focus on the benefits of cow farming, Kavinder Gupta expressed his commitment to promoting cow farming in J&K. He pledged to launch a comprehensive awareness campaign to make cow farming a successful and profitable enterprise for farmers in the Union Territory.
