3-day historic mela commences at Sudhmahadev

SUDHMAHADEV, June 3: The historic Sudhmahadev Mela, spanning three days, kicked off in Tehsil Chenani with traditional enthusiasm and joy. Thousands of devotees from both within and outside the Union Territory gathered at the sacred Sudhmahadev temple on the first day of the mela to seek the blessings of Lord Shiva.
Lal Chand, Chairperson of the District Development Council (DDC) Udhampur, graced the occasion as the chief guest and officially inaugurated the mela. He was joined by Juhi Manhas Pathania, Vice Chairperson of DDC, Parkash Chand, BDC Chairman, Manik Gupta, President of MC Chenani, Narsoo Subash Chander, DDC Councillor of Latti-Marothi, Pinky Devi, DDC Councillor of Ghordi, Rakesh Sharma, and Parvaiz Naik, Sub Divisional Magistrate Chenani, who also serves as the Mela Officer. Various civil and police administration officials were also present.
In his address, the DDC Chairperson extended his congratulations to the people and emphasized the significance of such melas in showcasing the rich cultural and religious heritage of the region. He highlighted the importance of preserving cultural traditions and values, noting that these events bring together people from diverse backgrounds and foster harmony among all sections of society.
The DDC Chairperson praised the District Administration of Udhampur for their meticulous arrangements, ensuring a flawless celebration of the annual mela. The administration had made extensive preparations, including uninterrupted power supply, clean drinking water, sanitation facilities, medical services, and robust security measures. Various government departments have set up stalls at the mela to educate the public about different schemes introduced by the Union Territory and the central government for the socio-economic upliftment of the people. Accompanied by the Vice Chairperson of DDC, the Chairperson took a tour of the departmental stalls, inspecting their setup.
The event featured cultural performances by troupes from local educational institutions and folk artists, showcasing traditional dances and music that received high praise from the audience.
