Rattan Lal Gupta Condemns LG’s Insulting Statement on Elections in J&K
6/4/2023 10:06:57 PM
Early Times Report

JAMMU, June 4: The Jammu and Kashmir National Conference (JKNC) has strongly criticized the statement made by the Lieutenant Governor (LG) accusing successive governments of hijacking and rigging elections in the region. The party has deemed this statement as an insult to the people of Jammu and Kashmir, who have consistently shown enthusiastic participation in the electoral process.
Rattan Lal Gupta, Provincial President of JKNC, expressed these concerns during a party workers’ meeting held in the village of Dhanu, in the Nagrota Constituency.
Gupta highlighted that the LG’s statement not only discredits the political parties but also undermines the credibility of the Election Commission of India (ECI), an independent constitutional body responsible for ensuring free and fair elections in the country.
Furthermore, Gupta accused the BJP-led central government of intentionally delaying the Assembly elections in Jammu and Kashmir to maintain their hold on the region. He claimed that the BJP fears facing elections in J&K due to their lack of support in the area, hence the deliberate delay in the election process.
Gupta emphasized the importance of democracy originating from within and called for the people of Jammu and Kashmir to be given the opportunity to decide their own future through a democratic process.
It is worth noting that the last Assembly elections in Jammu and Kashmir were held in 2014, before the state was divided into two Union Territories in August 2019. Since then, the Union Territory has been under President’s Rule. During the meeting, Kuldeep Raj, a senior NC leader, raised concerns about the scarcity of basic amenities such as power, water, and healthcare facilities in the area. He highlighted the miserable living conditions forced upon the people and urged the government to address these issues.
Rattan Lal Gupta also called attention to the various problems faced by the general public, including power and water shortages. He criticized the BJP government for its authoritative approach in Jammu and Kashmir, claiming that the rights of citizens are being neglected and common people are being ignored. Gupta demanded that the government settle the liability of MGNREGA, which amounts to nearly Rs 2 crore.
Pardeep Bali, Provincial Secretary of JKNC Jammu, urged party workers to prepare for the upcoming elections in Jammu and Kashmir. He emphasized that the NC is the only solution to alleviate the suffering of the people and urged party members to actively participate in the upcoming Panchayat and Local Bodies elections to counter the hollow promises of the BJP.
Raghubir Singh, District President of Jammu Rural A, cautioned people against the divisive policies of the BJP and encouraged them to support the National Conference in the forthcoming elections in Jammu and Kashmir.
Vijay Lochan, Chairman of the SC Cell of JKNC Jammu, called upon the people of the area to strengthen the hands of Dr. Farooq Abdullah and Omar Abdullah. He advocated for the installation of a government that prioritizes the concerns of the common man, in contrast to the BJP government that appears to favor a select few in the country.
