Jambu Zoo disappoints visitors, e-rickshaws play spoilsport
Animals haven’t arrived yet, facilities not put in place, allege people

Jammu, June 4: People visiting recently inaugurated ‘Jambu Zoo’ at Nagrota are returning disappointed.
While talking to a local news channel, visitors accused the e-rickshaws plying inside the zoo of duping them even after charging Rs 200/ per head.
“According to the terms and conditions the e-rickshaws have to take the visitors from beginning to the end of the zoo and bring them back,” said a woman who had come to the zoo along with her two children.
She said, “I paid Rs 600 for me and my two children. The rickshaw dropped us at the last point but didn’t get us back. I had to call my own auto driver to pick us up but he was not allowed inside the gate.” “I along with my children had to walk down from the last point to the gate as the e-rickshaw drivers told me that their batteries are dead and can’t drop us back,” she said, adding, “Visiting Jambu zoo was a bitter experience. We just saw a few animals and had to walk back amid the sweltering heat.”
The woman said when she told the "Jambu Zoo" that she would call the media they came to her with Rs 600/ and told her to take the refund. "You are a local, why do you want to bring a bad name for us, take your money back," she quoted Zambu officials having told her.
Another visitor said: “The e-rickshaw drivers drop the people who buy the tickets and to earn quick bucks they get back the people who don’t purchase tickets and walk up to the last point. This is sheer cheating and the authorities should look into it.”
He said, “A few animals have been brought from Manda zoo while the rest of the animals haven’t arrived yet. The e-rickshaw service within the zoo is hopeless and drivers are dictating terms to the visitors.”
A group of children said, “Our heart was broken! We had expected to enjoy our visit but neither there were any animals nor any facilities. The e-rickshaw drivers are playing spoilsport by saying that their batteries are dead.”
“If the e-rickshaws are unable to cater to the people then the authorities should allow people to take their cars inside the zoo,” said another visitor.
He said, “The e-rickshaw charges are exorbitant. A family of six people has to shed Rs 1200 for the ride and has to walk back to the exit gate. The authorities should reduce the E-rickshaw charges and put in all the facilities in place before inviting people to visit the zoo.”
Another visitor said that people are returning with bitter memories. “It’s after a long time that the Jammu region is witnessing development. The authorities should ensure that such places are maintained. Lot of hype was created when Jambu zoo was opened but the visit to the zoo has disappointed all of us,” he added.
