Harsh disputes BJP Govt's claims of transparency in selections

Early Times Report
JAMMU, June 16: JKNPP President Harsh Dev Singh criticized the BJP government's assertions about bringing transparency to government job recruitments, stating that it was a cruel joke on unemployed educated youth. He expressed cynicism towards the recent statements made by central ministers during the 'Rozgar melas' and pointed out the highly controversial selections made in J&K over the past few years, which tarnished the government's reputation. Singh highlighted the prevalence of fake, backdoor, and paid appointments, while regular government employees faced large-scale retrenchments during the post-reorganization period. He raised concerns about the sale of vacancies through blacklisted agencies by recruitment bodies in the new UT.
Singh specifically mentioned the scam surrounding the selection of PSIs, FAAs, and JEs in the UT, where crores were swindled by a corrupt mafia. He lamented the engagement of APTECH co. for recruitment, even though the youth had disengaged from them. The irregular selections of Firemen and drivers in the Fire services Deptt through dubious means were also brought to attention. Singh criticized the lack of action on these matters by the authorities.
In a significant job scam, the J&K Bank made backdoor appointments of around 3000 Banking Associates and Clerks, which failed to receive appropriate attention from the concerned authorities despite being highlighted by the erstwhile State Governor SP Malik.
Singh accused the BJP-PDP rule of committing the biggest recruitment scandal, involving the engagement of over 4000 SPOs through backdoor appointments without following proper procedures. The officers responsible for such appointments were allegedly rewarded with desirable postings by the government.
Singh revealed that hundreds of backdoor appointments were made in KVIB during the BJP-PDP rule, with only a few reportedly being rescinded as a superficial gesture. He mentioned several hundred backdoor appointments in the Industries Department and its affiliated corporations during 2015-18, which went unnoticed despite public outcry. He criticized the previous coalition government for engaging in scams where hundreds of backdoor appointments in the H&ME department were made by Chairmen of Rogi Kalyan Samities, bypassing prescribed norms and regulations. Even Lt. Governor Manoj Sinha acknowledged in a statement in March of this year that 2.5 lakhs employees were recruited through backdoor means in J&K, and Chief Secretary AK Mehta highlighted that 1 lakh daily rated workers were illegally engaged. The number of daily wagers increased from 62,000 in 2014 to 1,10,000 in 2018, exposing the misuse of authority and patronized corruption during the BJP-PDP rule. Singh criticized the vigilante organizations for remaining silent in order to maintain a favorable relationship with their political masters.
