Early Times Report

Jammu, June 16: Social media is abuzz with names of influential bureaucrats and politicians who have taken benefit of the amnesty scheme announced by the Jammu Power Development Corporation Limited (JPDCL) but are not ready to clear their dues.
Shamelessly abusing their influence, these powerful defaulters have not cleared their dues worth lakhs and lakhs of rupees despite getting repeated reminders.
In March this year when JPDCL snapped the power connections of some influential defaulters in the posh Gandhi Nagar locality these chronic defaulters had promised to clear their dues by the end of March 31.
In March this year, JPDCL had disconnected 1156 electricity connections including that of former Chief Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad and President of J&K Bharatiya Janta Party (BJP) Ravinder Raina and several Government departments.
With a promise to clear their dues before March 31st, these defaulters managed to get their connections restored.
As per the official figures, electricity consumption across the Jammu region is to the tune of Rs 3500 crore but revenue realization remains Rs 2050 crore which means there is a shortfall of around Rs 1400 crore.
As per the list circulated on social media in March this year many influential persons are chronic defaulters.
Prominent among those who have not paid their dues include the former Chief Minister of the erstwhile State of Jammu and Kashmir and President of Democratic Progressive Azad Party (DPAP) Ghulam Nabi Azad, former Deputy Chief Minister and BJP leader Kavinder Gupta, former ministers, and ex-legislators namely Asiya Naqash, Sunil Sharma, Raman Mattoo, Mir Saifullah, Mubarak Gul, Dr. Mehbooba Beig, Bali Bhagat, Syed Farooq Andrabi, Choudhary Garu Ram Neelam Langeh, and others.
Even several serving IAS and KAS officers are also on the list of defaulters and they too have been served notices for clearing the arrears failing which their electricity connections will also be disconnected.
