JAMMU, June 16: The two-day teacher training workshop jointly organized by The Royal Society of Chemistry (RSC), UK and the CSIR - Indian Institute of Integrated Medicine (IIIM) for Science teachers from Kishtwar district in Jammu concluded at Govt. Model Hr. Sec. School (Boys) Kishtwar.
Dr. Ashaq Hussain, Associate Professor of Chemistry and coordinator of the workshops, highlighted that these workshops, held under the Yusuf Hamied Inspirational Science Programme (YHISP), aimed to enhance the skills and knowledge of science teachers by providing them with effective techniques for delivering and engaging concepts in Science. This workshop marked the third in a series of four, with previous workshops held in Kathua and Katra. The final workshop will take place in Anantnag on 19th and 20th June.
During the concluding remarks, Hemant Lagvankar, the key resource person of the training programme, emphasized that the workshop aimed to train teachers in designing lessons that integrate activities into the curriculum and pedagogy, enhancing students' understanding of subjects and developing higher-order thinking skills. Teachers were introduced to proven active learning techniques applicable in a science context, allowing students to deepen their conceptual understanding. Practical science experiments were also shared, adaptable to various settings, including those without traditional laboratory facilities.
A total of 48 science teachers from government and private schools participated in the workshop and greatly appreciated the content. The valedictory function was presided over by Parhallad Bhagat, Chief Education Officer of Kishtwar, who urged teachers to implement these innovative techniques in their classrooms, making Science teaching effective and enjoyable for students. Bhagat praised the efforts of Dr. Ashaq Hussain, RSC, and CSIR-IIIM Jammu, endorsing the importance of such capacity-building programs. He suggested organizing similar workshops regularly at all levels to enhance teachers' creative teaching skills.
