JKPCC to attend national convention with Rahul Gandhi
6/17/2023 10:39:23 PM
Early Times Report
JAMMU, June 17: The OBC Department of Pradesh Congress Committee J&K conducted a preparatory meeting on Saturday to discuss their participation in the upcoming National Convention of the Other Backward Classes Department, All India Congress Committee. The convention is scheduled to be held at Talkatora Stadium, Delhi in the first week of July, with Rahul Gandhi as the chief guest. Capt. Ajay Singh, National Chairman OBC AICC, and K. Raju, National Incharge of all Cells & Departments AICC, will preside over the function. The meeting was presided over by Adv. Suresh Kumar Dogra, Chairman of the OBC Department, with Pawan Raina and Sanjeev Sharma, both Secretaries of JKPCC, as special guest invitees.
During the meeting, Adv. Suresh Dogra expressed concern over the neglect and deprivation of the OBCs in J&K by the BJP-led government and UT Administration. He highlighted how the OBC community, which constitutes half of the total population of J&K and India, has been treated as a mere vote bank by BJP, while their legal, political, and constitutional rights have been ignored. The OBC status, as well as the Mandal Commission report guaranteeing 27% reservation and the extension of the National Commission for Backward Classes, have been disregarded, despite being provisions of the UT. Adv. Suresh Dogra emphasized that after the abrogation of Article 370 and the formation of the UT, all national laws were implemented except those concerning the OBCs.
In light of these issues, the upcoming National Convention with Rahul Gandhi as the chief guest holds great significance. It aims to address the grievances of the OBCs of J&K and seek redressal of their concerns. Pawan Raina, in his address, criticized BJP's tactic of religious and community polarization, noting that Rahul Gandhi will champion the rights and demands of the OBC community at the convention. He urged OBC community members to participate in the convention with enthusiasm, emphasizing Congress's commitment to their welfare and representation at both national and state levels. Sanjeev Panda also highlighted Congress's pro-policies and programs for the community, stating that Congress stands with the OBCs in times of crisis and will work towards fulfilling their demands.
The meeting was attended by prominent leaders, including Parshotam Mehra (Vice Chairman), Vijay Kumar (Gen. Secy), Jagdish Kashyap (Jammu District Rural), Janak Raj, Raj Kumar Mehra (District Chairman Jammu Urban), Sourav Mehra (Youth Leader), Raj Kumar Verma (OBC Chairman Distt. Reasi), Jb. Fazal Din (Ramban), Darshan Verma (Senior Leader), Gulshan, Pawan Mehra (Senior Leader), Vikas Mehra (Youth Leader), and Parveen Kumar (Khour).
