6/17/2023 10:57:50 PM

Early Times Report

Jammu, June 17: Even as the meeting of the Opposition parties is scheduled to be held in Patna in the coming week, the Democratic Progressive Azad Party led by veteran politician Ghulam Nabi Azad will give it a miss.
Highly placed sources told the Early Times that the DPAP will not be a party to the meeting and that that the issue will be downplayed even though most of the faces who are seen as close to Azad in the national politics are scheduled to attend it.
Sources said some of the party leaders were of the opinion that Azad should make the decision public through a press conference but that the DPAP wants to “down play the matter.”
Azad has been pleading that "Elections are not being held in J&K for six years and not a single party is questioning it.”
Sources said Azad has told the party leadership that even if they get an invite he won’t attend the same.
Top politicians from Kashmir including those from the National Conference and the Peoples Democratic Party are likely to attend the meeting.
Those scheduled the meet include Congress leader Rahul Gandhi and Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge.
The JD(U) national president and MP Rajiv Rajan Singh alias Lallan Singh and deputy chief minister Tejashwi Prasad Yadav recently announced that the opposition meeting to form a combined anti BJP front to take on BJP led NDA in 2024 parliament election will be held on June 23 in Patna.
Other top leaders likely to attend the meeting include West Bengal CM and TMC chief Mamata Banerjee, Jharkhand CM Hemant Soren, Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav, Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal, Shiv Sena (UBT) chief and former CM Uddhav Thackeray, NCP patriarch Sharad Pawar, DMK chief and Tamil Nadu CM M K Stalin and top Left party leaders including Sitaram Yechury of CPM, D Raja of CPI and Dipankar Bhattacharya of CPI-ML( liberation).
From Kashmir Mehbooba Mufti and Dr Farooq Abdullah are likely to attend the same.
