NC accuses BJP of avoiding J&K assembly elections

Early Times Report
JAMMU, June 17: Ajay Kumar Sadhotra, a senior National Conference leader, strongly criticized the BJP for denying democracy in Jammu and Kashmir by refraining from conducting the much-awaited Legislative Assembly elections. Sadhotra claimed that the party fears an imminent defeat and backlash from the people, which is why they are shying away from facing the electorate.
In a press statement, Sadhotra highlighted the BJP's failure on various fronts and anti-people policies over the past nine years, which have led to overwhelming anger among the public, even within the party's core constituency. He emphasized that the BJP's authoritarian rule in Jammu and Kashmir, particularly the repeal of Articles 370 and 35A, has deprived the residents of their constitutional rights and downgraded the state to a Union Territory. This has caused discontentment among BJP cadres as well, who initially supported the political developments in August 2019 but are now openly criticizing the party leadership for the unfavorable consequences faced by the residents, especially the youth.
Sadhotra held the BJP accountable for not fulfilling their commitment to restore statehood to Jammu and Kashmir, displaying a lack of political understanding and a colonial mindset. He expressed concern that such insensitivity towards the people could further alienate them from the national mainstream and undermine the country's federal structure.
Furthermore, Sadhotra highlighted the failures of the BJP-led government in ensuring development and the smooth functioning of essential services. He pointed out the inadequate power and drinking water supply in Jammu during the scorching summers, emphasizing the government's irresponsibility and lack of accountability. He also criticized the hindrances faced by students in pursuing higher education due to the national-level CUET being conducted outside Jammu and Kashmir, which restricts opportunities for economically disadvantaged students.
Sadhotra raised concerns about the rising unemployment problem, recruitment scams, and scandals, as well as the escalating prices of essential commodities. He argued that the BJP's governance in Jammu and Kashmir has subjected the people to immense hardships over the years.
