Kashmir netas skip paying tributes to DSP Ayoub Pandit on his 6th anniversary
6/22/2023 11:01:24 PM
Early Times Report

Jammu, June 22: Even as the sixth death anniversary of Deputy Superintendent of Police, Muhammad Ayoub Pandit was observed on June 22, Kashmiri politicians remained silent on the issue.
Whereas most of the senior politicians from Kashmir including former Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, Peoples Conference President Sajad Lone and Altaf Bukhari of Apni Party use their personal social media handles particularly to post condolence messages or birthday greetings, all such handles looked silent on Ayoub Pandit till their social media handles were last seen.
Whereas Omar Abdullah started the day by sharing a news report on “opposition unity” on his Twitter handle, only yesterday Sajad Lone had posted a tweet to condole a demise which had taken place in Kupwara. But none of the two senior politicians used their handles to pay tributes to Pandit.
Altaf Bukhari, whose last post was about congratulations, also looked silent.
Mehbooba Mufti’s social media handle also remained silent on the issue. Pertinently Mehbooba was the Chief Minister when Pandit was lynched.
As per the police, “During the fateful night between June 21 and June 22, 2017, Jammu and Kashmir Police officer DySP Muhammad Ayub Pandith was performing his legitimate duties outside Jamia Masjid, Nowhata,Srinagar when an unruly mob caught hold of him and stripped him naked before stoning him to death in most barbaric manner.”
“He was posted outside the mosque for the security duty of the people so that they could offer prayers without any hindrance on the auspicious night of Shab-i-Qadar in the holy month of Ramzan. The Martyr was lynched to death by some ultra radicals in the pious night,” the police said in a remembrance post.
“That night humanity was again put to shame at the hands of brutality and some anti national elements who don’t want peace for the people of J&K. The act of cruelty was condemned by the people across different sections but J&K Police has lost a brave, dedicated and an honest officer. The nation will remain indebted to the supreme sacrifice of the officer and JKP is proud of its valiant officer. All ranks of J&K Police pay homage to Martyr Sh Ayoub Pandith,” the police said.
Despite repeated attempts the said politicians couldn’t be contacted for comments.
