Rakesh Goswami elected president of District Mountaineering Association Jammu

JAMMU, June 25: In an election meeting held at Press Club Jammu, Rakesh Goswami, the renowned mountaineer and founder of Shivalik Mountaineering & Adventure Sports Club, Jammu, has been unanimously elected as the President of District Mountaineering Association, Jammu. The meeting saw the participation of esteemed mountaineers and adventure enthusiasts from the region.
Sonam Sidharth, a dedicated member of Tawi Trekkers J&K, was elected as the General Secretary of the Association. The election results showcased the collective support and confidence bestowed upon the elected members by the mountaineering community.
Other key positions were also filled, with Shawetica Khajuria of Tawi Trekkers J&K being unanimously elected as the Senior Vice President, and Navneet Gupta of Snow Trail Mountaineers, Jammu, along with Sushil Singh, an avid trekker, taking on the roles of Vice Presidents. Shilpa Charak, an accomplished sport climber and mountaineer, was unanimously elected as the Joint Secretary, while Narinder Singh, a seasoned mountaineer, assumed the position of Treasurer.
The Executive body welcomed five new members, including Sakshi Magotra and Sunil Chakharia, both trained mountaineers, S. Binderpal Singh, an experienced trekker, Renu Sharma, a dedicated sports teacher, and Gaurav, an enthusiastic trekker. Their unanimous election further strengthened the association's commitment to promoting mountaineering and adventure sports in the district.
The Observer for the election process was Ram Khajuria, the Senior Vice President of Mountaineering Association of J&K, and the Returning Officer was Sumit Khajuria, the Vice President of Mountaineering Association of J&K. Their presence ensured the transparency and fairness of the election proceedings.
Sonam Sidharth, the newly elected General Secretary, expressed gratitude to the members for their trust and support. He pledged to organize a meeting of the Association in the near future to discuss strategies and initiatives aimed at popularizing adventure activities, particularly trekking, and fostering a culture of mountaineering excellence in Jammu district. The Association's goal is to produce more quality mountaineers and champion sport climbers, thereby making trekking a widespread movement in the region.
With the newly elected team at the helm, the District Mountaineering Association, Jammu, is poised to embark on a journey of promoting adventure sports and nurturing the spirit of mountaineering in the picturesque landscapes of Jammu.
