The Chief Secretary emphasized the need for a comprehensive actionable plan to achieve self-employment saturation in J&K, ensuring sustainability and viability of ventures. The meeting was attended by officials from the finance sector, J&K Bank, NABARD, RBI, and other government departments.
Dr. Mehta highlighted the importance of financial literacy campaigns and media awareness to educate people about the benefits of financial inclusion and government schemes.
He praised J&K Bank’s performance in credit dispensation and encouraged other banks to support those in need. The MD & CEO of J&K Bank, Baldev Prakash, assured full support from the banking fraternity for entrepreneurial development, employment generation, and poverty alleviation.
During the event, Chief Secretary launched the “Swarozgar Utsav” campaign, aimed at providing gainful self-employment to the youth of Jammu & Kashmir. The campaign will run until September 30, 2023, and will be implemented at the panchayat and ward levels. Banks were urged to collaborate with Panchayat Prabhari Officers and create customized employment plans based on local requirements.
Furthermore, Chief Secretary directed banks to initiate a digital payments promotion campaign titled “Digital JK – Digital Payments” to contribute to the government’s vision of a “less-cash society.” He emphasized the importance of banks’ involvement in the Jan Suraksha Schemes, which provide social security to vulnerable sections of society.
During the meeting, it was revealed that banks in J&K achieved 118% of the target under the Annual Credit Plan, disbursing credit of Rs. 60,048 Crore to 17,16,527 beneficiaries. Additionally, loans amounting to Rs. 2,016 Crore were sanctioned to 48,120 beneficiaries for major employment generation schemes during the financial year 2022-23.
