Early Times Report

JAMMU, July 4: The State Organ and Tissue Transplant Organization (SOTTO) J&K, in collaboration with the NSS Unit of Central Sanskrit University, Shri Ranbir Campus Kot Bhalwal, Jammu, organized an insightful awareness session on Human Organ Donation. The event aimed to educate faculty, staff, and students about the National Organ Transplant Program (NOTP) and the process of cadaver donation.
Under the guidance of Dr. Yogendra Dixit, the coordinator of the NSS Unit, the program commenced with a warm welcome to the esteemed guests. Dr. Dixit emphasized the importance of organ donation, highlighting how it could provide a new lease on life for those in need. Ms. Anshu Sharma (IEC & Media Advisor) and Nisha Kumari (Programme Assistant) from SOTTO shed light on the legal aspects of organ donation, dispelling myths and sharing inspiring stories of organ donors.
During the session, participants were educated about the significance of organ donation, particularly in cases where a person is declared brain dead due to injuries or medical conditions. It was emphasized that with the consent of the family, organs and tissues from a brain-dead individual can save multiple lives. Each donor can potentially help three to eight individuals through organ transplantation.
The program highlighted the pressing need for organ donors in India, as the demand for organs far exceeds the available supply. This scarcity can be attributed to various factors, including lack of awareness, religious beliefs, and misconceptions surrounding organ donation. Common myths, such as the fear of organs disappearing in the afterlife, were addressed to dispel any misunderstandings.
Prof. Madan Mohan Jha, the Campus Director, delivered the presidential address, acknowledging the significance of organ donation in improving the lives of those in need. He emphasized that donating an organ not only enriches the recipient’s life but also brings immense satisfaction to the donor.
The program concluded with a vote of thanks from Maninder Singh, the program officer of the NSS Unit, expressing gratitude to all the guests and participants. Several distinguished medical professionals, including Dr. Rishiraj, Dr. Gopal Verma, Dr. Rajkumar Mishra, Dr. Ratan Kumar Pandey, Dr. Sarvesh Tripathi, Kamal Kishore, Dr. Snehlata, Dr. Shivashish, Dr. Prasad Bhatt, Dr. Shweta Sood, Dr. Praveen Kumar, and Dr. Madan Singh, were present at the event.
Technical support for the program was provided by Akhil Sharma and Tirupatibala, while Maninder Singh efficiently conducted the proceedings.
Overall, the awareness program successfully shed light on the importance of organ donation, fostering a life-saving initiative within the CSU community.
