7/9/2023 10:55:19 PM

Early Times Report

Srinagar, July 9: Rainfall has stopped at most parts of Kashmir even as water levels at several places in Jhelum crossed the flood danger mark on Sunday, officials said.
The Meteorological Office said rainfall has stopped at most parts of the Kashmir valley, including in the south, while widespread rain lashed Kathua, Samba, and some places in Ramban, Doda, and Udhampur districts, causing floods and flash floods at various places.
The Met Office has issued a "Red warning" for Kathua, Samba, and other lower catchment areas of the Jammu region as there is a risk of flooding or flash flooding has increased considerably.
"All concerned are advised to stay alert during the next 24 hours,", the Met office warned.
"The overall improvement in weather is expected on July 10th", they added.
The water level in river Jhelum in the Kashmir valley had crossed the flood danger mark at Sangam, Pampore, and Ram Munshibagh in Srinagar. However, its tributaries and nallah are still flowing below the danger mark in the Kashmir valley.
However, the water level is likely to recede with the improvement in weather conditions, officials said.
The Irrigation & Flood Control Department, Kashmir, has issued a water level at 11 am for the river Jhelum at Sangam, which crossed the danger mark and touched 21.15 ft., while the normal level is 21 ft. and the flood declaration is 25ft.
Similarly, at Pampore, it is also flowing over the danger mark and recorded at 5.51 m, while the normal level is 4.5m and flood declaration level at 5.0m. Munshibagh had also crossed the danger mark 18ft and was flowing at 19.61ft while the official flood declaration reading is 21ft.
Asham recorded 12.6ft at 1100 hours, while the normal level is 14ft and flood declaration is 16.5ft Similarly, the water level in the famous Wullar Lake is 1577.15m just a few meters below the danger level of 1578.0m.
In the Jhelum tributaries, Vishow nallah flows at Khudwani at 7.05m (8.5m), Rambiyara nallah flows at Wachi at 2.53m (5.7m), Doodhganga nallah flows at Barzulla at 1.75m (3.8 m), and Sindh nallah flows at Doderhama at 2.51m (3.9 m), respectively.
