KVK educates farmers on Scientific cultivation of kharif pulses

REASI, July 13: Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK), Reasi under the aegis of Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences and Technology-Jammu (SKUAST-J) organized awareness-cum-training programme on scientific cultivation of Kharif pulses here today at Bhangal village of Katra block in Reasi district of J&K which was attended by a number of farmers of the area. Sr. Scientist &Head of KVK, Reasi, Dr. Banarsi Lal warmly welcomed the participants and guided them on the importance of pulse crops, their nutritional and food security benefits.
He said that Reasi district has an immense potential in Kharif pulses production and there is need to increase the production and productivity of pulses in the area by adopting the latest technologies. He explained the scientific cultivation practices of Kharif pulses and educated the farmers on improved varieties of seed, Integrated Nutrient Management (INM) and Integrated Weed Management (IWM) practices in the Kharif pulses.
He discussed in length on the diseases and insect-pest management in Kharif pulses and suggested the farmers to take timely remedial measures to get more farm returns. He also informed the farmers that pulses help to increase the fertility of the soil as pulses plants help to fix atmospheric nitrogen in the soil.
He also discussed on the benefits of natural farming and guided farmers on organic cultivation of pulses. Dr.Suja Nabi Qureshi said that pulses production will not only increase the income of the farmers but also enhances the nutritional level of the people by their consumption as they are rich in proteins. He discussed on the soil health and soil health cards for the improvement of the productivity of the pulse crops. He discussed on the self-sufficiency of pulses production.
Farmers took keen interest during the programme and ask many quarries regarding the Kharif pulses production which were answered satisfactorily by the KVK scientists. KVK, Reasi also laid Cluster Front Line Demonstrations (CFLDs) on black gram (var.PU-31) in the area. Ex-Sarpach of the area, Krishen Singh thanked KVK, Reasi for promotion of pulses production in the area. The programme was concluded by Dr.Suja Nabi Qureshi with formal vote of thanks.
