95th ICAR day celebration, technology demonstration concludes at KVK Samba

SAMBA, July 18: Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Samba of Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences & Technology of Jammu today concluded 3 -day celebrations of 95th ICAR day by organizing technology demonstrations from 16th-18th July, 2023.
More than 300 farmers/farm women enthusiastically participated in these programmes held at KVK premises under the leadership of Prof. B.N. Tripathi, Vice-Chancellor, SKUAST-Jammu.
The day event witnessed a display of novel and innovative technologies including specimens, exhibits and agricultural tools and implements for the farmers.
The concluding day of the programme began with a welcome address by Dr. Sanjay Khajuria, Chief Scientist & Head, KVK Samba. He welcomed the farmers and highlighted the importance of new and innovative technologies in agriculture particularly in Samba district for enhancing the income of the farmers. He emphasized upon the need to include new and innovative technologies in agriculture to improve the profitability in the agriculture sector. He elaborated upon the various initiatives undertaken by the KVK during the last 03 days like organization of training and awareness programmes, demonstration on processing and value addition of kandi fruits like mango, citrus fruits, kissan goshtis, exhibition of the latest technologies for the benefit of the farmers. A series of the expert lectures were also delivered by the KVK scientists for the farming community of the Samba district.
Dr. Neerja Sharma, Senior Scientist (Horticulture) discussed in detail about the value addition of the fruits and vegetables in the Samba district and various post harvest measures to improve the income of the farmers.
Dr. Abhay Kumar Sinha, Senior Scientist (Agricultural Engineering) elaborated upon the various aspects of farm mechanization in the field of agriculture like tractors, tillers, farm machinery banks, custom hiring centers, innovative farm tools and their role in reducing the farm drudgery to a greater extent.
Dr. Saurav Gupta, Scientist (Entomology) gave detailed information about the importance of innovative farming as it offers a solution to various problems, such as food security, farmers' distress, and health problems arising due to pesticide and fertilizer residue in food and water, global warming, climate change and natural calamities. He also discussed different ways to control various insects -pests and diseases of Chickpea through various innovative farming techniques.
Dr. Vijay Kumar Sharma, Scientist (Animal Sciences) elaborated upon the role of livestock in improving the livelihood security of the farmers and different initiatives undertaken to improve the livestock farming and also different schemes for the welfare of the livestock farmers.
Dr. Shalini, Programme Assistant, KVK Samba emphasized the importance of soil in agricultural productivity. She stressed upon that farmers should use organic farming techniques to promote soil health. Dr. Amit Mahajan discussed in detail about the various weed management practices in the kharif crops.
The programme concluded with vote of thanks by Dr. Saurav Gupta. Others who participated in the programme include Bharat Bhushan, Tajinder Singh and Pawan Singh.
