Early Times Report

Srinagar, July 21: A casual laborer working as contractual guard of the Forest Department who was killed in a terror attack in south Kashmir recently died a “lesser martyr” as the senior officials, didn’t even express condolences than to talk of announcing relief for the bereaved kin.
Imran Yousaf Wani succumbed to injuries after terrorists fired at a forest check post in Pulwama. The bereaved family said he was the lone bread earner of the family and that the kin should be given a government job. The administration, however, looks silent.
On July 19, two forest guards were wounded in the terrorist attack in Pulwama district of Jammu and Kashmir, following which one of the two succumbed to injuries the same evening at hospital.
As per the officials, the terrorists had fired upon a team of forest department employees who had set up a checkpoint to apprehend timber smugglers near the Bangender Bridge in the south Kashmir district on Tuesday night.
The injured -- Imran Yousaf Wani and Jahangir Ahmed Chechi -- were taken to a hospital, wherefrom Imran, who had received a bullet injury on his thigh, was shifted to SMHS Hospital in Srinagar.
Jahangir Ahmed Chechi had minor injuries and was discharged after first-aid, the officials said.
Imran Yousaf Wani, however, died at the SMHS Hospital.
Senior officials who have served in Kashmir for decades said the “prevalent babu raaj is forgetting that this person (Imran) sacrificed his life for the country and thus deserves not only formal condolence from the senior officials in the administration but also a job for the family.”
“Basically this babu raaj is taking toll on the very idea of good governance and New Delhi needs to take note of it,” said some senior officials on the condition of anonymity.
From a former RAW official to the Bharatiya Janta Party leaders many voices have been raising concern over the “babu raaj, which is not only affecting the idea of governance but also the image of BJP in the Union Territory.”
Despite repeated attempts, the senior officials couldn’t be contacted for comments.
