Srinagar, July 23: Rains lashed Jammu and Kashmir causing flash floods at various places while the weatherman predicted more rains during the next 24 hours, officials said on Sunday.
The MeT office forecast fairly widespread light to moderate rains during the next 24 hours, from 8-30 AM on Sunday, over J&K.
The weather is likely to remain partly to generally cloudy with a chance of a brief spell of rain at some places on July 24-25.
An independent weather forecaster Faizan Arif said there are possibility of showers in some areas of the union territory on Sunday, especially in parts of north Kashmir.
He said intense showers, flash floods and cloudbursts can occur in a few spots while there is possibility of rain showers during the day over the next two days.
Srinagar and its adjoining areas experienced light to moderate rain that water logged many low lying areas, disrupting normal life.
Srinagar received 9 mm, Qazigund 22.3 mm, Pahalgam 17.4 mm, Kupwara 4.5mm, Kokernag 2.8 mm, Gulmarg 19.4mm, Jammu 1.2mm, Banihal 4.2 mm, Katra 48 mm, Bhaderwah 1.8mm and Batote 19.3 mm during the past 24 hours till 8-30 AM on Sunday., the MeT office said.
There were reports of flash floods caused by heavy rains and cloudburst at Faqir Gujri in the outskirts of Srinagar, frontier Kashmir district’s Lolab area of Kupwara and Kulgam in south Kashmir, The floods have damaged standing crops. |
