Omar Abdullah drops bombshells; says Mirwaiz has given up politics

Early Times Report

Jammu, July 28: Former Chief Minister and National Conference, Vice President, Omar Abdullah has dropped a bombshell saying that Hurriyat Chairperson, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq has given up politics. The former chief minister told the media persons that Mirwaiz has given up politics and that still he was not being allowed to venture out of his home. “He has given up politics and he now wants to focus on social and religious issues alone but still he is not being allowed to offer prayers at Jamia Masjid,” Omar told the media persons.
It’s pertinent to mention that the Mirwaiz has never given any statement that he has taken retirement from the separatist politics. What is even interesting is that Mirwaiz Umar Farooq has even not reacted to the statement given by the former Chief Minister.
Observes said there could be understanding between the Mirwaiz and the Abdullahs due to which the former has preferred to be silent on the issue. It’s pertinent to mention that Omar Abdullah had also alleged that Friday prayers were not being allowed in Jamia Masjid Nowhatta whereas just a day after his statement the Srinagar police posted pictures of prayers being held there making the former CM’s claims fall flat.
For the last few months, rumor mills had been rife that Mirwaiz was likely to switchover from the separatist politics to the mainstream but he never reacted to such news reports. Some of the politicians had been making public appeals that Mirwaiz should join mainstream politics and contest elections.
However one of his colleagues in the Hurriyat M had clarified before the media that he had taken retirement from the separatist politics to join the family business of bakery. Since then, though the said politician has been staying away from the political activities, some months ago he was expected to join a right wing party.
