POWERGRID signs MoU with DC Kargil to provide water tanker for GDC under CSR

Kargil, Aug 4: Power Grid Corporation of India Limited (POWERGRID) took a significant step towards promoting education by signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on August 4, 2023, with District Development Commissioner, Kargil. The MoU entails the provision of a Truck Mounted Water Tanker with a 9 KL capacity for the Government Degree College in Kargil under the Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiative of POWERGRID.
Vinod P. Baxla, General Manager (HR) on behalf of POWERGRID, and Shrikant Balasaheb Suse, IAS, Deputy Commissioner (Kargil), signed the MoU in the presence of Feroz Ahmed Khan, Chief Executive Councilor, LAHDC, Kargil, and Rajesh Kumar, Executive Director POWERGRID, NRTS-II. The signing ceremony also witnessed the presence of senior officers from POWERGRID and Kargil District administration.
The Govt. Degree College, Kargil, the largest college in Ladakh UT, has more than 3000 enrolled students in various undergraduate degree courses. Ensuring a regular water supply for daily use has been a major concern for the college. In response to the college authorities’ request, the District Magistrate, Kargil approached POWERGRID for assistance in providing a water tanker to address the issue and ensure an ample supply of potable drinking water for the students and staff.
As per the MoU, POWERGRID will provide the funds for the Water Tanker, and the purchase and operation will be managed by the District Administration, Kargil. The project, costing approximately Rs 27.20 lacs, is expected to be completed within the current financial year.
Both the Chief Executive Councilor and the Deputy Commissioner of Kargil expressed their gratitude to POWERGRID for undertaking this CSR initiative and providing essential infrastructure for the benefit of the students and college staff in the district.
POWERGRID, a Maharatna Enterprise under the Ministry of Power, operates its regional headquarters for Northern Region-II in Jammu. The organization is actively engaged in inter-state bulk power transmission and has played a pivotal role in supporting various infrastructure activities in the UT of Ladakh through its CSR initiatives. With its commitment to technological advancement and excellence, POWERGRID continues to maintain an impressive transmission system availability rate of over 99%.
