Kashmir based parties fail to impress people by their theatrics
8/4/2023 11:25:07 PM
Early Times Report

Jammu, Aug 4: In a bid to reclaim political relevance Kashmir-based political parties are trying to create a notion that they alone can represent the people but masses seem unimpressed by their theatrics.
An analyst while talking to Early Times said, “Since the revocation of Article 370 and J&K’s bifurcation into two union territories, J&K has witnessed significant political upheaval.”
“National Conference (NC) and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), have long portrayed themselves as the guardians of Kashmiri interests. They are attempting to make a comeback by trying to send a message that they only can safeguard the interests of J&K people.
However, people are not getting swayed by their claims as they are aware about the political stunts staged by them for the sake of power,” the analyst added.
“Leaders of Kashmir based parties are hoping to reinforce their narrative that they are the only representatives of the people's aspirations in the region. However, this tactic seems to have had limited impact on the ground,” he said.
An observer said, “Public opinion in Jammu and Kashmir has shown a clear shift over the years, with a growing disillusionment towards the traditional political parties that have seemingly failed to address the long-standing grievances of the people. Frequent disruptions, internal power struggles, and allegations of corruption have further eroded public trust in these parties.”
“The lack of attention towards the theatrics of Kashmir-based parties can be attributed to the changing dynamics in the region.
After the abrogation of Article 370, the Centre has accelerated development efforts in Jammu and Kashmir, focusing on areas such as infrastructure, education, healthcare, and employment opportunities. These initiatives have directly addressed the needs and aspirations of the people, moving away from the traditional dependence on political parties,” he said, adding, “This shift in focus has further marginalized the influence of Kashmir-based parties, as the people increasingly view them as outdated and out of touch.”
“As the political landscape of Jammu and Kashmir continues to evolve, it is becoming increasingly clear that the traditional parties need to reinvent themselves to stay relevant. The people are demanding more than hollow rhetoric and theatrics,” the observer added.
