J&K High Court Bar association protests FIR against Samba bar association
8/4/2023 11:22:10 PM
Early Times Report

Jammu, Aug 4: J&K High Court Bar Association, Jammu, led by its President Shri Vikram Sharma, Senior Advocate, held a massive demonstration in protest against the lodging of an FIR against the members of Samba Bar Association. The protest was in response to the alleged high-handedness exhibited by SDM Ghagwal, who holds the charge of Sub Registrar Ghagwal.
According to the President of J&K High Court Bar Association, instead of addressing the genuine grievances of the members of Samba Bar Association, filing an FIR against them reflects the sheer arrogance of the concerned officer. The Advocates have a responsibility to pursue justice and uphold the law, and their valuable assistance should not be ignored by implicating them in false FIRs. The President expressed concern that this action by the officer could lead to confrontation, which is not a healthy sign for the overall functioning and growth of the institution.
The protesters urged the government to implement Govt. Order no. 117 (Rev) of 2019 dated 24-10-2019, which sanctions a separate and independent registering department for the purposes of the Registration Act. They argue that establishing such a department would be a lasting solution to the grievances of the general public and advocates, as it would prevent unnecessary delays in registering documents caused by executive officers being occupied with other administrative matters.
The protest garnered support from various Bar Associations, including Reasi, Udhampur, Katra, Akhnoor, Bishnah, Kathua, Hiranagar, and others.
The protest included participation from various members, including Shri Amit Gupta (Vice-President), Shri Parvesh Singh Salaria (General Secretary), Shri Chetan Misri (Joint Secretary), Shri Utkarsh Pathania (Treasurer), Shri Rohit Sharma (President, Young Lawyer Association), and several others from different Bar Associations.
The main demands of the protesters seem to be addressing the grievances of the Samba Bar Association, implementing the separate and independent registering department, and protecting the dignity of advocates and the legal profession from any perceived high-handed actions.
