DC B'la chairs meeting, discusses Action Plan for Road Safety Measures

BARAMULLA, Aug 7: In order to discuss various road safety measures and other vital issues pertaining to transport mechanism, the Deputy Commissioner (DC) Baramulla, Dr Syed Sehrish Asgar today chaired a Road Safety meeting with the concerned functionaries at DC Office, here.
The meeting discussed threadbare the present scenario of the public transport system in the district along with the road safety action plan reflecting targets assigned to allied departments.
Presenting the detailed list of activities to be conducted by the concerned departments for Road Safety and traffic management, Dr Sehrish emphasized upon the officers to work in proper coordination and cohesion so as to ensure the betterment in the system.
The DC directed the functionaries of BEACON to nominate a Nodal Officer for installing sign boards at all public institutions on National Highway (NH1) and improve road markings to ensure Road Safety in the district. She also called to identify black spots in unexpected sharp corners, hills, winding paths, hidden junctions and poor or concealed warning signs besides removal of unnecessary speed brakers.
On the occasion, Dr Sehrish also deliberated for adopting the requisite safety measures so that the accident ratio is minimized in the district besides stressed on organizing awareness programmes so that people are sensitized about the traffic rules and regulations.
Further, the meeting also discussed other factors for the smooth traffic management and road safety which include improvement of junctions on State highways and other roads, installation of speed management measures by way of transition from Highway to city traffic, wayside amenities for long distance drivers etc.
Moreover, DC exhorted upon the concerned stakeholders to mobilize all the available resources in order to provide safe road infrastructure and sustainable transport services to the masses with best emergency care. She further directed ARTO Baramulla to make the requisite and sufficient services available in all the hungry routes of the district.
The meeting was attended by Additional District Development Commissioner Baramulla, Aijaz Abdullah Saraf; Superintending Engineer R&B, Chief Education Officer, Chief Medical officer, ARTO, other district and sectoral officers besides representatives from BECON and other departments.
