Early Times Report
JAMMU, Aug 12: Jammu and Kashmir Electrical Engineering Graduates Association (JKEEGA) recently convened a meeting chaired by President Sachin Tickoo, which included members of the Executive Council. The gathering discussed the pressing matter of numerous vacant positions in the Power Development department's engineering cadre, which have remained unfilled for over a year.
The Executive Council expressed deep concern over the prolonged delay in filling these vacant positions, which has negatively impacted the morale of the engineering community. The current situation reveals alarming numbers: 2 Managing Director positions, 4 Executive Director positions, 5 Chief Engineers, 14 Superintending Engineers, 62 Executive Engineers, 134 Assistant Executive Engineers, 167 Assistant Engineers, and around 350 Junior Engineers are all vacant. This has led to the unsettling scenario where individuals are holding multiple positions within PDD corporations, affecting their ability to provide quality service.
Sachin Tickoo, during the meeting, emphasized that as the department and corporations embark on reforms like smart meter installations, addressing consumer concerns and grievances must be prioritized. A recent order (No. 21 of 2023, dated July 31, 2023) highlights that a significant number of feeders have been assigned to a single Junior Engineer for maintenance and daily operations, an unsustainable workload.
The association underscored that even with significant investments in infrastructure like the RDSS scheme, successful implementation relies on appropriate staffing to manage inevitable issues that arise with reforms.
